Streetlight Manifesto – Down Down Down to Mephisto's Cafe Lyrics 18 years ago
Clearly this song is against religion, but I would just like to point out that it not necessarily an atheist anthem.

"Someone shouted "Everything's for nothing"
Somebody shouted, "All is lost"
But I can't buy that nonsense too "

In my opinion, this is saying that he believes in something, just not exactly what's in the bible.

"Finally, I met a man with kindness in his eye and fire in his heart
He said you'll never have to choose a side
It's rewarding but oh, the road is hard....
They broke him wide open
Like a dam and a cork that's holding everything inside
You can play the role of rebel
Just be sure to know your wrong from right "

This is a reference to Jesus. He's clearly trying to say that its ok not to buy into a particular religion, because he has a sense of ethics and a personal relationship with God.

I think I just said the same thing that everybody has been saying, but whatever. I love this band, and am going to see all 3 shows that they're playing in Florida!

I never got to my main point:

It's naiive to believe that without religion there would be no war.

I love bad religion, but I hate you people. Their intelligent music draws out the most arrogant, narrowminded idiots. You can't blame all of the world's problems on religion, thats providing a scapegoat, a simple answer to a much more complex problem. Though people do atrocious things in the name of religion, the true essence of religion calls for universal peace. You can't blame the War in Iraq strictly on Muslims Extremists or Christian Imperialists. Sadaam Hussein has committed genocide, and that alone is reason to invade. Though we kind of shot first and asked questions later, somebody needed to help these people. How can you people speak so idealistically and then turn your back on those screams of the innocent? I love bad religion, but I just want to encourage everbody here to think for yourself, and not believe everything Greg Graffin says just because he puts it into a song.

Gorillaz – Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head Lyrics 20 years ago
This story may be dealing with imperialism(Invasion of Iraq), or it may simply be a story about our own backyard(U!S!A!U!S!A!).

Personally, I think that this is a story illustrating how nothing can remain innocent in our corrupt world. The happy people (Native Americans, perhaps the pious Puritans) are living a peaceful life until its interrupted by the Strangefolk (greed, lust, drugs).

They don't see the corruption because they don't want to, illustrated by, "You see, without the truth of the eyes, the Happyfolk were blind. "

(BTW, i like the previous interpretation of the eyes representing the media)

So as this corruption slowly tears away at the once sacred mountain, the Monkey, perhaps representing GOD, unleashes a furious vengance, heard deep in space.

Then this little allegory is tied back to the USA at the end of the song.

Summary: The world is slowly slipping into a flaming crevasse of sin, and if we man does not try to make ammends, a swift apocalypse will punish the evil.

In conclustion... SEX. that is all
