| For all those who want to know the lyrics or try to interperet them, just think of the vocals as being another instrument. The song is beautiful. End of story. | |

Seems like it's about a mother seeing reformation in her childs eyes. She tells herself And everyone else Father is risking His life for our freedoms Her childs father is away at war fighting for his son and family so they never have to go through what he is going through right now again. The child is seeing what is happening and the "lightning in my child's eye" is the child burning to change the passed (when he is older of course) and take a stand against war. |

| Obviously about one of the band members making it big and escaping their previous life (most likely their family upbringing). I don't know who wrote this but it could be about anyone or for anyone.. Great lyrics. | |

When Eddie Vedder is "between" songs, he goes to a seculded beach where he owns a house. He spends his time surfing to get away from everything else, it's just him and the ocean.. Now I don't know if this is even Eddie's song but it seems to me that it's about his appreciation for the ocean and the waves he rolls in his "free" time, and how it inspires him to write. |

It honestly has no meaning. Like someone said.. Mike McCreedy says in the "Lost Dogs" book, that it's about nothing in particular. When the lyrics were recorded, they were never written. It was improved then, it's improved now (in concert). If this song meant something *to me* it would mean "the end". I've seen PJ in concert over 30 times, and probably at 25 of them, Yellow Ledbetter was the last song, "the end". :) As for some of the lyrics in concert, my favorite was in MSG (I think it was the second night, '03?). Eddie called his friend Johnny Ramone (of the Ramones, duh), just before he played "I Believe In Miracles" (a Ramones song). Johnny wasn't home (he was probably at the show), so when it came to Yellow Ledbetter, Eddie pretty much made the whole song about his and Johnny's relationship. "and I called and left a message, he wasn't home" "he'll be there when I'm done, no, he's never coming home in no box or a bag". R.I.P. Johnny Ramone |
