According to No One Here Gets Out Alive, the song basically is about anti-war movements and the hippies involved with that, but the it also says the key to the song is the line "trade in your hours for a handful of dimes", which means the hippies are sell-outs and thus ridicules them. So, although it has been used as a anti-war movement by hippies song quite often, it ironically appears to be against hippies.... |
