| As I Lay Dying – Meaning In Tragedy Lyrics
| 19 years ago
|
I think the song means this:
going your own way from God is getting nothing. has tragedy happend for a reason or a result? Sin has led me to ask this question. If we fallow what we are suppose to do we will be better off. Is what we have been told to follow not a reality and trying to follow this impossible because even our teachers have failed? The enemy has already won and we have already lost if we do not learn from our teachers who have made mistakes; we have lost unless we change our ways.
I Really like what ourmodernred said, It is exactly the way I am feeling.
Something from one of P.O.D.s songs that i think goes with this message "Look to the sky head the warning, the shadow is coming, the shadow is coming."
I think it is time for us to change.
Of corse this would only make sence if you think As I Lay Dying writes from a christian perspective. |

Man, this song has more meaning to me than you guys can know. I just want to say its too bad we couldn't be better friends Jared. I'm sorry I couldn't tell you who I really was. It's my fault for trying to fit in and being a bad ass. Jared Durant 1985-2006. |

I agree most with flanger
hmm I would say this is a straight forward song cuz its not really Zacks thing to use metaphores. A lot of the stuff he says is hard for some people who are hmm.... uneducated on social, political, and military events. I would say domestic abuse, and as Malcom X said "Be peaceful, be courteous, obey the law, respect everyone; but if someone puts his hand on you, send him to the cemetery" Just a thought.
P.S. Zack kicks ass! Audioslave sux. |

On the Band of Gypsys album, the following lyrics preceed the song:
"I'd like to dedicate this song to all the soldiers fighting in Chicago, and Miwaukee, and New York. Oh yes, and all the soldiers fighting in Vietnam."
Yeah he says this at the Isle of wight right? well I know he does cuz I have it on dvd. Everytime I watch him play it, it blows me away. Also if you havent seen Jimi play at the Isle of Wight I would suggest watching it cuz its AWSOME. he plays in front of roughly 600,000 people. The name of the dvd is Blue Wild Angel. |

"bob marley is god."

"this is just a note to baby smacks.....I think that Bob Marley would object to being refered to as god...."
Uh don't mean to be a buzz kill or nothing, ;) but Marley believed Haile Selassie the former Emperor of Ethiopia was Jah (God) incarnate. It is hard for me to get my head around that. Marley is great but that is just messed up man. You guys ever think about that? |

I agree with you all, but I belive there is more to the song that makes you have a better appriciation for it. I think its about Marley reflecting on his time when his mother moved him and his family to Kingston in trench town after his dad died when he was 10. This is when and where he met and started playing music with Neville "Bunny" Livingston (aka Bunny Wailer) and later with Joe Higgs, a very ifluetial Rastafarian mentor and singer to Marley, and Peter McIntosh (Tosh). He is just singing about how when you are passionate about music nothing els matters, and how that was true in his life. Anyways, I wrote too much, but I thought it might be interesting to people who don't know a lot about Robert Nesta Marley's life.
Marley will never die, peace out. |

estocopath got it almost exactly right in my opinion. Project 86 doesn't like being called a "christian" band. They sort of try to separate them selves from "the church", but I do believe that God still does have favor on the church. I think you can't generalize something as broad as the church in general. There are so many different churches with different emphasists. Some are good and some are bad.
P.S. I think Jesus didn't like the church at that time in that format, but was not apossed to the church in general. |

I agree with you, tobacco products are no good to anyone. I have to ask though, why are you commenting on this song anyway? You are not getting anything out of it but an argument. I don't comment on how Green Day doesn't know how to play anything more complicated than G, C, E. Your prejudice against P.O.D. fans. I'm going to cry.;) Look I think people have the free will to do whatever they want, but that doesn't make it right. I don't know if you mean to but, you seem to make very broad statments about a us people (whatever that means). Do you think anyone does anything 'wrong'?If you would like me to apalogize for disagreeing I will. |

Alright my turn. I belive this song is explaining how you feel when you feel the presents of the holy spirit. That and meeting God. I'm suprized more people don't see it that way. Let me know if you true P.O.D. fans think that makes sence. |

This song was inspired by A shooting, but I know for a fact it wasn't columbine. I know it was near there studio or home town or something. I'm too lazy to look it up rite now. Those are the facts. I belive the reason they made this song was to point out how peoples lives, mainly teens, are affected by rejection or insecurities or something along those lines. The message is to do something about that by loving someone who may not exactly fit in. If some one wants to add what school it was, I think it would be helpful. Now kids, stop fighting. |

Ok, I couldn't just stop there. goomba555213 is an idiot. Also, I read some people writing, it wasn't a good idea for P.O.D. to sing this song because it may make someone feel terrible after hearing it if they have had an abortion. P.O.D. (Payable On Death) wrote the song to prevent women from having an abortion. It was a message to the people who were listening to there music at that time. In the begining their music was much more of a ministry.
p.s. Can't wait until Testify. 5 days. |

HAHAHA. Dont feel lame for saying that. You made my day (sort of). I just saw that movie and I totally noticed that too. It made me laugh for some reason. That is the categoric paramount for 90s movies. The best part of the movie is when the dude eats the 'special' brownies. |
