Lovedrug – Blackout Lyrics 20 years ago
In response to Narayan: I was having trouble with meshing I AM = God with the whole vermin thing, but I think I have it figured out. It's saying that depraved people are creeping on the streets... but so is I AM. And He's coming after the perverse to avenge the victims (in this song, the victim would be the girl). At least that's what I think, and it seems to go along especially with the very last portion of the song:

Suck it up,
dry your tears,
i'll lift you up,
says the angel here,
little girl,
feel the rage,
turn your head,
walk down that hall and put yourself to bed.

It's sort of like "hey... you don't worry about a thing, little girl; I'm going to avenge you..."

Why does he keep using "I am" as if that were the name of a person? I AM is a title for the Christian God, but the confusion comes in because he portrays this figure in a creepy light, and sometimes it's almost like he's calling himself "I am."

Hahaha... So, it's "Jonathan Edwards," not "John Edwards." Not sure how I made that mistake..

Although it's not widely known, the part where he says "love is spiders on the edge, and we're hanging by a thread..." is actually a quote from the sermon Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God, by John Edwards. It's saying that we are l ike spiders, suspended over hellfire by a single thread, and that it's a miracle that God has spared us for any small length of time.

Amazing song.
