Simon and Garfunkel – Cecilia Lyrics 18 years ago
I'm inclined to go for the St. Cecilia interpretation...it's the verse that clarifies it for me; I mean that kind of situation is completly unbelievable if it's taken literally...also the contrast between the two choruses kind of resembles how inspiration comes and goes...I really like this song, I don't know why they thought it was one of they're lesser works...

Radiohead – Treefingers Lyrics 19 years ago
I really like this song, although you really have to be in the mood.

I think the songs theme is discovery, growth or realisation - or something along those lines.

The way it just builds very gently (like the way it adds a tinkling piano tune towrd the end) and changes subtly (the everpresent hum constantly changes from tone to tone) seems to indicate these ideas.

The White Stripes – We're Going to Be Friends Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is fantastic.

It's got a real innocence about it. I think it is simply highlighting how children are so much purer in spirit than adults. They aren't corrupted by money or culture yet. In this way it's a bit sad as it shows that at some point we all lose the blissful innocence of childhood and become twisted by the world around us.

Lovely song.

Nirvana – Downer Lyrics 19 years ago
I think that most if not all of Kurts songs have some sort of meaning. Look at In Bloom. That song accuses some 'fans' of not caring what his songs meant. It seems pretty unlikely for Kurt to write a song saying he can write anything and people will find meaning in it and then one accusing people of not finding meanings in his work.

Bleach wasn't a breakthrough album either so its not like people were analysing his lyrics at this point anyways.

Also the Lyrics are to well written (he uses complex vocab like restitution etc) to be just "crap".

Nirvana – Downer Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song is about someone having a rant about things in the world and their life which seem unfair/unjust. It has a very depressive tone hence the name of the song "Downer"

I don't know, I really like Karma Police, I think it's one of their best. What are you favourites? High and Dry is one im guessing.

Radiohead – Blow Out Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song is about not being confident in your abilities the lines "everything I touch turns to stone" and "Im fused just in case I blow out" seem to indicate this.

Radiohead are a great band and pretty much all of their songs have amazing and deep lyrics.

Muse – Sunburn Lyrics 19 years ago
I think it is simply about desiring things you know you shouldn't and feeling guilty about it.

Muse – Butterflies and Hurricanes Lyrics 19 years ago
I think that this song is about how mistakes made in mankinds past are causing monumental problems in the future (The metaphor of a butterfly being able to generate a hurricane is a metaphor for this).

I think the song talks about how we will have to work incrdibly hard to stop these problems engulfing the world - "You have to be the best".

Also the contrasts betweeen the floaty piano part (not writtten by Muse) and the fairly heavy rock part link back to the title.

The song almost seems like a warning to people to make a stand and try and change things before it's to late and "revenge comes".

The song does have surreal feel to it. The use of the word "revenge" in the first verse does sound a little Godly.

You could also say the song is about how mankind has angered God and will soon be punished for it unless we change our ways.

Thats just my interretaion though. I think it's an amzing song and really well written - like almost all of Muse's music.

The White Stripes – I Fought Piranhas Lyrics 19 years ago
I think that this song is about jesus's resurection. I think "pihanas" is a metaphor for the vicious people involved in the crusifiction of jesus.

I think the last verse is about the crusifiction itself. I think that the line "who puts up a fight walking out of hell" is reffering to the living hell of the torture he received and his willingness to die to be free of the pain.

The White Stripes – A Boy's Best Friend Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song is simply about feeling alone out of place and unwanted.

The first verse conveys a sense of rejection and lonliness - "Their home has run out of space"

The next part emphaises his lonliness as he talks to what seems to be an 'imaginary friend'. This is repeated later in the song as well.

The last verse echoes the previous ones and ends the song on a very meloncholy note.

Radiohead – Karma Police Lyrics 19 years ago
I believe that this song is about predudice, narrow mindedness and frustration and eventually understanding and aceptance.

The protagonist of the song seems to condemn things he does not understand or deem acceptable e.g. 'hitler hairdo'. He feels he has the moral high ground over these people and seems to think that they should be punished for being themselves. He seems angered that they are not being regulated by a higher power - the karma police - and thus takes matters into his own hands e.g. 'crashing her party'.

The chorus - 'this is what you get when you mess with us' - indicates that if the world is not going to deal with the people he sees as inferior then he will.

The reference to 'still on the payroll' indicates that no one is exempt from karma -especilly himself - which is essentially spiritual retribution for bad deeds.

Upon realizing this he sees that by condemning what he does not undestand he is only bringed bad things upon himself - inviting bad karma - this explains his salvation in the lines 'for a minute there I lost myself' where he finally realizes that his own predjudice is the reason for his unhappiness.

Of course this is my interpretation and the true meaning is known only to the writer.

The White Stripes – Jimmy The Exploder Lyrics 20 years ago
to be honest i really dont rate the first album that highly. The guitar work is good but some of the lyrics are pretty cruddy. I mean a song about a monkey who explodes apples...its pretty lame (good guitar work tho). I like the other albums, the latest 3 are really good. Any way i just got this one so maybee it will grow on me

Nirvana – Smells Like Teen Spirit Lyrics 20 years ago
I think that this song is about feeling out of place and insecure as a youth or teenager. E.g. "Load up on guns, bring your friends" i think this shows that at this stage of life (teenage) you feel very insecure and need some sort of protection from the world and feel safer in numbers. The other lyrics back up this theory.
