| Tenacious D – The Government Totally Sucks Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
This song, I believe, is a slap to all of those hollow artists out there who have found it's easy to be cool and edgy and sell lots of albums when you're constantly talking about how the government is so evil, despite the fact that they haven't truly put much thought into how to improve what's broken...aside from "impeach (insert patsy here)." All these artists are doing nothing but cultivating a generation of youth who will rebel against anything so long as it's cool and never ever devote any of their brain-cells to independent thought. Awesome, compared to bullshit...indeed. |

| Mr. Bungle – The Air-Conditioned Nightmare Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I keep having this image of my head of Mike Patton having to talk to like a record exec, and this is the background music to his fantasy of jumping out of his chair and throwing himself through the window of the record-exec's 30th story office so that he doesn't have to listen to the muzak and bullshit any longer. | |
| Pixies – Stormy Weather Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| If stormy weather is supposed to equal bad times, this song certainly doesn't sound like it. It sounds like refreshing rainfalls and spectacular lightshows in the clouds...something beautiful. I remember listening to this song once in my car during damn near torrential rains at noon...the whole experience, as simple as it was, will be with me forever. | |
| Mindless Self Indulgence – What Do They Know? Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
You know what this song reminds me of? With those classic Atari bleeps? This reminds me of the feeling I get whenever I play a video game and die constantly no matter how hard my effort is. That edgy irritation is captured PERFECTLY in this song. When I listen to it, I can almost see myself throwing my controller at the wall. "Beat me up Beat me down Mess me up Beyond all recognition For what it's worth I'd do it again With no consequence I will do it again." To me, these lines represent a kind of concession "Yeah, beat me up, keep killing me, ridiculous CPU player. For what it's worth, I'll just keep getting back up, and I'm gonna fuckin' clear this stage." A sort of vocal intimidation tactic to game itself, which, obviously, doesn't even care. What does a heartless, mindless computer know about that kind of thing? |
