"There are no bold statements in my paradiddle" well, that was easy. |

| The Books – Be Good To Them Always Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
"Oh. he's in the middle of putting things together and organizing himself." Cannot even begin to describe how hilariously on-target this line is, especially considering what the target audience of The Books is usually on. |

| Wintersleep – Miasmal Smoke and the Yellow Bellied Freaks Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Well, this song (much more of a play or an opera) is certainly one of the more powerful, emotional pieces by Wintersleep (saw them in Dallas with Wolf Parade, never had heard of them before but am obviously a fan now). The singer has met an innocent, promising and lively 16-year old girl that has "donated her eyes to feel her actual senses/to feel what life was like". In other words, she is beginning to see the world as it really is via maturity. However the narrator, drawing from personal experience, has a pessimistic view of life and is not happy to reveal the corruptive, "miasmal", and otherwise gilded truth that the adult life offers. He advises the girl and all other "yellow bellied freaks" to "go back to sleep", because he feels that once they obtain the knowledge he possesses, they will not be able to rest so easily. The finite limitations given by "God and modern science" certainly are depressing, and haunt the narrator ("if I could stop imagining if my dreams weren't after me"). Before giving way to a badass instrumental outro, the singer describes his outlook in an equally melancholic manner. Concentric, sure, but IMO more of a story than just a bunch of symbolism. |

| Bear vs. Shark – Entrance Of The Elected Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Like most BvsS I believe the lyrics serve little purpose. However the last 30 seconds of this song are, imo, the band's best. | |
| Lynyrd Skynyrd – The Ballad Of Curtis Loew Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Definitely the best Skynyrd song. Evokes a certain feeling that feels like nothing else that the southern boys have done. | |

| Manfred Mann – Blinded by the Light Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I like the carnival idea, but I stand by the the car wreck theory. Here's why. 1. Some silicon sister with a manager mister-> If this song is about teenagers doing drugs, what's a chick with breast implants, married to a manager, doing there? Maybe I'm interpreting wrong but I interpret this song as basically as I can. 2. Musically, Mann stresses "the calliope crashed to the ground" and "asked me if i needed a ride". I interpret this to mean that the driver of the vehicle that crashed was reminiscing, like, for example, on why he didn't take that ride. 3. The second verse denotes just regular people at a bar. Maybe the driver got drunk, and then got into a car accident? 4. Blinded by the Light. The driver dies. I think the simplest approach is usually the right one. |

| Flogging Molly – Tobacco Island Lyrics | 20 years ago |

Cromwell raped our lands in the north and pretty much made it a Protestant sludge fuck...as it remains to this day. I agree with sk8bboard, after hearing this song, the first thing I wanted to do was christianize the little black-haired plagued fucks. Spanish Inquisition style, of course. |
