| The Little Willies – Love Me Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think the lyrics are self-explainatory. This is how the one person who's always loved me feels. Is it because I do not love her or do not love her enough, that I still cannot take the leap, after all these years? | |

It's kinda obvious, especially after Musica123's comment. Death that isn't dead because he could, "begin to live again" blood and mud, slow-moving, etc. It sure seems like a description of the un-dead. He's standing under a BROKEN street lamp--perhaps near a graveyard? In the first verse, she wonders if he made himself that way or if someone had cursed him with undeath. I've been a fan of Norah Jones for a long time, and have listened to this album many times, but it wasn't until recently that I realized this song is about a zombie! It becomes especially obvious in the song immediately following Broken. The first line says: "'Twas Halloween and the ghosts were out" |

Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorius triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat. --Theodore Roosevelt I think that quote adequately describes this song. |

| Nothing teenageish about this song. It's a song about someone who's waited too long for someone who keeps breaking their promises. | |
| Breaking Benjamin – Simple Design Lyrics | 20 years ago |

I'm sorry, are y'all on crack?? This song is about commitment in a relationship. Need I elaborate? I live a chemical life I’m on a mission to try You went insane for the day I'll have to shove it away My only option is gone Smile as they break and they fall You want a simpler life You can’t erase what was mine He's using her, just like he's using all the other women in his life. She learned of his promiscuity, and went ballistic. Still, he wants her. You must be out of your mind This was a simple design You fuck it up every time How could you leave me behind? Simple design?? Yeah, f*ck with anyone you want, that's pretty simple, isn't it? But she won't have that; she wants commitment. It’s all right, it’s all right cause I know what you want but you’ll just have to wait if I had it to give I would give it away I'm livin' it up while I’m fallin' from grace there’s no way, there’s no way that I’m running away He knows she wants him all to herself (is that too much to ask in a relationship?!) but he can't/won't. He's too busy 'living it up' with anyone and everyone he fancies. Regardless, he still wants to use her for his own pleasures... I’m used to making it worse made up of four letter words you want to know what it was now isolated and gone you fall apart at the seams I'll never know what it means try not to pull it apart You're aiming straight for the heart Yeah, he has a violent nature, so don't test him with deep-cutting words--telling him exactly what he KNOWS he should be for her, or he might flip out. you had to be the worst for me I don’t know what to say, so let me be and now I find you've left me behind I don’t know what to say, so nevermind! Yeah, take the easy way out. Shut up, perhaps flip her the bird, and move on to the next 'piece of meat' What an a-hole! Judging from the content of their "We Are Not Alone" album, I don't think this interpretation is very far off. |

Well put Odinseye. So fly away and leave it behind Return someday with red in your eyes He's tempted them, tantalized them with the prospect of a relationship. One day, soon the rejectee will look back and absolutely hate him for the trauma, hence the "red in your eye" ...seeing red? |

| Breaking Benjamin – Follow Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I'm losing sight, don't count on me. I chase the sun, it chases me. heh, re-reading the lyrics, this makes it obvious IMO... He's losing sight of his dream, questioning why he's here ...most likely a girl, and is warning her: not to assume he'll be around forever; if she keeps disregarding him, taking him for granted, he will leave eventually. |

| Breaking Benjamin – Follow Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I think you're forgetting the chorus. I'll* follow you. You follow me. I don't know why you lie so clean. I'll* break right through the irony. irony, n: the use of words to express something other than and especially the opposite of the literal meaning I think someone's being taken for granted, lied to, or mis-treated, in some capacity. He's asking them to look deeper, to take a look at where he's coming from, the real him, the one in his heart "You'd know my heart if you knew my place." Likewise, when, in the second verse he changes it to, "You'd know my heart if you knew YOUR place," he's asking them to be honest with themself, and keep their own position in perspective. Enlighten me. Reveal my fate. Just cut these strings that hold me safe. He's asking them to help him, and to stop holding him back. "I'll follow you, You follow me" He's asking for an alliance, which can only come when they take a deeper look at who he is. This could be considered a tortured love song, and judging from the angsty style of the rest of the album, it's likely it is, but it could also be viewed as merely someone who knows their potential, but due to outside forces is unable to achieve their goals. |

| Portishead – Western Eyes Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
It's a beautifully melancholy song, to be sure. Singing of the hopelessly destructive nature of western civilisation, Beth Gibbons DOES make use of the same musical tones that we've come to associate with deep sadness, as Phrogex said. As to the last part I feel so cold, On hookers and gin. etc. It DOES sound like a sample, but to the best of my knowledge, most of the instrumentation in Portishead's works are also samples. They're recorded on tape, then down-sampled; producing a gritty sound. Perhaps it was recorded specifically for this song? |
