Yeah, it's fairly obviously about suicide.
I didn't think of it as particularly about an old person, but now I've read it here, the bit about 'these are the eyes I want you to remember' seems to suggest someone who has been diagnosed with a termnial illness, and wants people to remember them when they were healthy and cheerful, rather when they were dying.
Then again, 'I have seen things that you will never see' suggests it's someone depressed/traumatised, although maybe it's talking about being told you're going to die.
Although i can't speak for every suicidal person - all the people talking about listening to Everybody Hurts instead - listening to a song about suicide isn't going to make anybody do it, and listening to Everybody Hurts isn't going to help anybody who's very suicidal.
This is a totally beautiful song, with very good (although sad) lyrics.
Automatic for the People is amazing. |

I think it is sarcastic. I thought the Dresden Dolls were more intelligent than to believe this is true.

I think it's about PTSD - a soldier goes to war and never recovers from what he's seen. He's a 'zombie' because although he's still alive the war has killed him.

He's not being racist by saing 'nigger'. He's using the shocking racist conotations of the word to get a point across. I think in this sense it means a scapegoat, or someone people let their hate out on. Like white people used to do to the black people they called 'niggers'.
This song is about the America, and it's lack of understanding and maturity that creates more death and hatred.

This song reminds me of a manga I read where a paedophille got into a realtionship with a girl of consenting age (just), but she acted and thought like a child (possibly mentally handicapped). Through this, he basically had the opportunity of legal paedophillia:

I can identify with this song a lot. Actually, I think just about everyone can. You try so hard to live up to people's riddiculous expecatations of you, but in the end, there's nothing you can say or do that everyone will be happy with and you'll just feel like you 'offend in every way'.

I Googled this and found a site that said it's about a story in the newspaper about a kid that had been really badly burned and him going outside again.
But I'm not sure about that. Because it says the kid's never been outside. It makes me think of an abused child creating an imaginary friend, or a kid with haemophillia who couldn't go and play with the other kids and everyone else made fun of them for it. |

I think this song is brilliant. It's funny, but it's actually kinda true and has a meaning as an anti suicide song. Particularly the bit about '25 words will summerise how you spent your whole damn life' - when people top themselves people think and talk about how the died rather than what they did when they were living. |

About the Vaselines cover thing... the lyrics are slightly different but it totally changes the meaning. The Vaseline's song seems childlike and sweet, but the Nirvana version seems to be changed to be sexual, by getting rid of swing swing and by changing 'you' to 'we' creating 'when we play in the bedroom'. |

I love this song so much, because I've felt exactly that way. It's about thinking it's no longer worth loving anyone because it hurts so much when that love and that trust is broken. The 'wrap myself in me and cry myself to sleep' is about the lonliness you would feel in the isolatiion you want. I think 'choose to die alone' is about suicide.
That's what it means to me anyway, but that's what I feel sometiems, so maybe I would think that. |
