This song is amazing, I kept putting off listening to it because it was so long and I wanted to devote all my attention to it. I'm glad I did :) |

Yeah, but they don't mind that they didn't know each other, because maybe they were too afraid to have someone know them that well.
I love the bit when Regina sings that paint me anything bit, it sounds really good. She has such an incredible voice, yeah? |

| Keane – Bedshaped Lyrics

What if he means that when she does come back, it won't be perfect and they won't go up in 'a white light'... And with bedshaped it is how he is describing her legs. Bedshaped and stone like. I'm not sure what he means by bedshaped but it is definitely descriptive. This is by far my favourite Keane song. :D |

torilovesmusic, before I looked at the lyrics I always thought that thats what the song was about too. And then I read the lyrics and I'm like: "Oh, maybe not." But then I read what you wrote and I completely agree (again, lol). |

I'm such a spaz. I didn't even know this was a cover lol. But more than one song off 'You Can Play These Songs With Chords' are covers. 'This Charming Man' is the only other one I can name off the top of my head, though.
I absolutely this song though. It reminds me of something that should have been on Gilmore Girls. I don't know why. Possibly because of the Diner reference, but thats all I've got... |

This song is so catchy. I feel in love with it the first time I heard it. Figure 8 is definitely my favourite album, but they're all great! :D |

This song is funny and/or gross. But I love it. Not one of my favourites, but definitely near there. |

| Kimya Dawson – So Nice So Smart Lyrics

"I was quiet as a mouse
when I snuck into your house
and took roofies with your spouse" - She's brilliant....
She said that she hates it if someone would come up to her and call her a genius, because she writes and records these songs from bed, aha.
I feel this song is pretty straightforward, but then I'll listen to it, and bits of it won't make sense with other bits, so I've given up. :D
Great song, nonetheless. |

Genevieve was teaching her how to speak French, and the live version of this song that I have its talking about Genevieve's book, and Kimya said that this was a thank-you song to her. |

Man, this song is wicked. "I want so badly to believe that there is truth, that love is real" are some of their best lyrics. Its gorgeous. |

| Death Cab for Cutie – A Movie Script Ending Lyrics

I wouldn't say this is my favourite Death Cab song, but it is the one that I've listened to the most. Followed by Two Cars. Both great songs.
I love the bit where it says, "Now we all know the words were true in the sappiest song, yes, yes."
The "passing through unconscious states" bit always makes me think he's mixed two things around. Like he's sleeping as they pass through the states, or he's saying that he's passing through different states of consciousness.
Anyway, great song. I'm going to listen to it now. |

I used to think that the lyrics were:
"She appears composed, so she lives, I suppose" but after reading what the lyrics really are, it doesn't really change anything, but I just thought I'd tell you. :D
I pretty much agree with what yarbles said, but debaser121 explained it really well. |

| Elliott Smith – Roman Candle Lyrics
|
When I first heard this song, the title reminded me of those dribbley candles stuck on top of a scull, but that didn't make sense so I asked my dad (as I always do when I want to know something) and he told me that it was a pretty basic firework that you lit and it shot up in the sky and exploded everywhere.
And I think that might kind of describe the anger that is coming out of this song.
But thats all I could come up with. But yeah, in case you were wondering what a Roman Candle is (although, maybe it was just me who had no idea what it was) you know now. |

Man, what was that heather200408 thinking? You don't put down other peoples comments. Unless they're completely full of shit, haha.
Sometimes I feel kinda bad for trying to figure out what his songs mean. I mean, if he had them so cryptic, maybe he didn't really want anyone to know what they were about, he just needed like a release or something and thats what song writing was about to him, but sometimes curiosity gets the better of me.
Either way, I think it would be impossible for anyone to absolutely understand any of his songs completely, because a lot of it is feeling as well.
But I do think that beulah is right about this one, but who knows? |

| Elliott Smith – Division Day Lyrics

I do think that this song is about suicide as well. Not necessarily his own, but someones.
Someone who was perhaps once in a bad relationship, although maybe it was a relationship that took part a long time ago.
You know, if anyone else tried to put an upbeat tune behind a sad outline, I would hate it, but he had this magical way of doing it, didn't he? Baby Britain probably being my favourite example of it. |

| Sufjan Stevens – Romulus Lyrics

ibedazebra, I had the same thought as you. I didn't know that Romulus was a place and I assumed that it was referring to Romulus and Remus who were abandoned by their mother and raised by a wolf.
I now know there is a place called Romulus but I still think of the story of Romulus and Remus when I listen to it.
This is such a beautiful song, isn't it? The part about his grandfather dying in his hospital gown is so sad. And the ending of this song, where he says: "I was ashamed, I was ashamed of her" reminds me of Casimir Pulaski day, when he says: "And he takes and he takes and he takes" I think its the same style of realization, almost.
Well, I'm off to listen to this song again. :D |

| Sufjan Stevens – The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades Is Out to Get Us! Lyrics
| 18 years ago

Actually. Now that I've kind of thought about it, I kind of think of this song as maybe something that happened when he was younger. Like a family trip and he brought along a friend.
It first made me think of this because why would they sit in the backseat if they're adults?
Also, its innocent and not given another thought if a young boy kisses his best friend. And it says that his brother is there too, so it could well have been a family outing.
Also the way he sings "Oh I love him each day" just sounds so friendly. Bad reason I know, but still. |

I'm not a Christian. I go to a religious school, but I don't really believe in God. Faith is different, I suppose.
I love that you can appreciate Sufjan's music even if you don't agree with him. I love singing along with The Transfiguration, and its brilliant!
Its good that he isn't forcing it upon us as well. Its pleasant that he's not affraid to sing about his beliefs. Very refreshing.
At least if I ever get a question about this in RE I'll know all about it, lol! :D |

Musically this is my favourite song in the universe. Or the multiverses, or whatever you choose to believe. I love the music and just listening to it on the bus in the morning. It is incredible. And I love that it has just the right amount of lyrics too. There is nothing in this song I dislike. :D
And also ChicSquared: I agree, I always here "taken from your life" not the other one! |

Figure 8 is my favourite album I think, but then again, I love them all, he's brilliant. When I heard this song I loved it immediatly, I could listen to this album through and through. I don't know if there is an Elliott Smith song that I don't love, I even love his covers. :D
But I don't know what the song is about... lol |
