| Minus the Bear – I'm Totally Not Down with Rob's Alien Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Jesus Christ so many people taking the lyrics at face value -- thinking this song is about the few minutes when your parents leave the house and you have that "freedom". One dude even said it was about how he's jackin at his computer and his parents come home and catch him. Ugh. Yes, the song is about solitude, but it's not about being alone while you're parents are out. It's about an alien. Rob's alien, to be specific. You can't even drop a deucer in the terlit without Rob's alien showing up with his Blackberry Storm 3-megapixel camera phone all up in your business. This one time, I was totally trying to bang this girl I know from Freshman english in my neighbors gazebo, and wouldn't you know it -- guess who shows up with a boom mic and a mini-cam?? ROB'S ALIEN, that scoundrel!! I was so mad, I almost couldn't bust three ropes of jizz in her hair and face! Anyway, to make a long story short, this song is about the complexities of being a teenager growing up in the suburbs and a failed internet connection because comcast SUXXXXXX. |

It's not a typo. "Blood clot" is Jamaican for "fucking" or "motherfucker". He's saying, "stop all of your fuckin crying" |

No one has yet addressed the meaning of the song, so here it is: The first two verses are about 'ye questioning himself and second-guessing his own feelings. To him, he feels like all these wonderful moments in his life came and went before he even had time to appreciate them. Dude is questioning whether it's normal to be this nostalgic, to think back on those moments, and whether he'll ever just live in the present and not think back on those moments that occurred over years or decades, but you only have a quick memory of them. Dude's emotional, and he wants to just escape. He has all these emotional problems, and he just wants to be somewhere else, but as he sees these lights pass him by, he thinks of all these moments that escaped him before he had the chance to appreciate them. His "destination" is a truly happy life, but there are all these memories haunting him -- reminding him. He paid his fare -- he struggled and underwent a lot of pain, that was his payment. But he still has to deal with the pain of his past before he can be truly happy -- to arrive at his destination. Child-like, he ends with "life's just not fair." This is self-explanatory, and you've all cried and felt this at one point. |

This song is very straight forward. For the first 10 seconds, the guitars build to what you believe will be a happy, pop song. The man is thinking about all of the happy times he spent with his (ex)girlfriend. The walks, the talks, the laughs... everything was perfect, and he was the happiest he'd ever been. Then, just as a smile appears on his face, the rest of the instruments come crashing in, with a down-beat, melancholy hook -- just as the man suddenly realizes all of that good stuff is now gone. It's over between them. The happiness is gone. He composes himself for 30 seconds, then silently asks to himself (and her) "Did I drive you away?" Not expecting her real answer (she is gone), he replies to himself with something she'd always say when he asked a silly question... "Play one we know." She was disregarding the question, and simply telling him to play a song and stop being so morose. Have a good time! She was always such an optomistic person. He realizes he has nothing to offer to her, otherwise she wouldn't have left. So he cried, beckons, "I promise... I'll always look out for you," as a last-ditch effort to place himself above any other man. He realizes this is all in his thoughts, and cries to himself "Ohhhhh." He again thinks of what he'd say to her, begging her to stay, telling her that his heart belongs to her, and that he needs her. He apoligizes (again, only to himself) and says he will never let her down again. Again, he realizes he will never be able to say these things to her and sings, cries "Ohhhhhhh." After crying every last tear, unable to cry anymore, he reflects once again on their love and remembers the good times. He almost smiles again, as he reassures himself that he saw sparks -- they were meant for eachother. THERE WERE SPARKS between them!! Once again fully realizing she is gone, and obviously there were no sparks to her, he sings himself to sleep and tries to forget she is gone.... "la la la laaaaa" |
