| Letters to Cleo – Awake Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This song is interesting. She's fed up with the relationship and they are never on the same page (one is always awake and one is always asleep). They are never awake together or asleep together. But it makes them comlplete. Opposites attract, and that is what she is metaphorically depicting in this song. | |

I, as a newcomer, will analyze this song for you. Before I do this, let me say that I do not believe that it has to do with a secret lover or a black man...or a penis. I believe this is one of those angry songs with a popy, almost happy tune. She is clearly being sarcastic in the song. She is in a relationship where she is being used. She is talking about a charming man which she adores and cannot seem to leave even though he is using her. In the chorus she is basically sticking her middle finger up and singing sarcastically "Gigantic, a big big love." She is being sarcastic because she knows there is really no love there at all. None whatsoever. And i agree with whomever said that she sings like a hopeless romantic. Similar to Kay Hanley. Love their voices. |
