Excellent song, especially the version on the "SphincTour" live CD. In that version, instead of "rip you apart" Al says "fuck you up". Funny how he changes the lyrics after a song has been out a while. |

| Ministry – The Great Satan Lyrics

Wow, way to write a middle school book report. But I digress.
"The Great Satan" has to be my absolute favorite Ministry song. The phrase itself, according to Uncle Al, is a reflection of how other countries, particularly those in the Middle East, perceive America. It even went on to attract the attention of Stephen Colbert, who asked one of his guests, "America: Great Satan or Greatest Satan?"
In the original version of this song, released on Rantology, the phrase "Bringin' down the USA is what it's all about" was "We don't need your fucking war, so get your asses out". Less tactful, but more fun. |

This album directly shaped the sound of Skinny Puppy's album "Rabies" a year later, which Al Jourgensen produced. "Stigmata" and "Flashback" are right at home next to "Hexonxonx" and "Tin Omen". |

It's about some war veteran having a flashback about killing people, and when he comes to, it's his wife/girlfriend/daughter/whoever he's killing, but he's having such bad PTSD he doesn't care. And he means mace like pepper spray, not "a mace". |

First time I've ever heard the phrase "Mother fuckety-fucker" before. So I guess that's a landmark. |

If you have the special iTunes version of this album, one of the lines written in the digital booklet reads "After all is said and done we live to shit to kill to come." I think that's how they meant this song to read. |

"It" is "it". The American dream, the current fad, status, popularity, street cred, experience, the things you either start out with or never have. |

Yeah, the AEA comment makes the most sense. A wonderful, feel-good song if ever I heard one. Mr. Bungle for President. |

This is a fine example of a song that can be interpreted in many different ways; the most common opinions are that this is about Christianity, or perhaps cult mind-control. That's the thing about Klayton: never a straight answer. |

You gutterheaded idiots. This song is about the temptations of sex and pornography, and the struggle brought on by these habits. Try reading the lines themselves, not between them. |
