I think this a song about a fan/groupie of a much older musician, probably of an indie band (hence 'the badge' the narrator of the song would wear - a typical item of indie culture)
The song is sweet and optimistic/melancholic at the same time, and the feelings of the narrator are so innocent. Great song. |

"Feel it closing in
Feel it closing in
The fear of whom I call
Every time I call" - and doesn't it refer to Curtis' job before he got 100% committed for the band. from what i know after watching "Control", he worked in an employment centre and his job was pretty boring and he didn't really like it |

this song gives you really strange euphoric feeling. it can be about anything actually: about falling in love, epilepsia attack, taking drugs (amphetamine comes to my mind, altough i dont think he ever tried speed), mental illness, getting lost in music. it can be about weirdness of being an artist as well. I love it. |

for me it's about becoming an adult, spending your whole day in dead-end job, repeating the same thing over and over again - working class reality in the 70's |

i think that both interpretations of Lloyd Cole reference are very interesting. personally, I like the one about intellectual snobbery more - because it reminds me of one of weirdest persons I know - she always felt better than others because of amount of\ books she read...and guys were simply scared of her and laughed at her snobbery at the same time! so she were heartbroken many times, cause she couldn't really see any further than how elloquate the guy she meets with is. really weird and unhappy girl |

this song is so nostalgic that i almost cry everytime I listen to this song. I think that author is not in the state described in the lyrics, but he just remembers all yesterday parties which were wild but which are gone now and currently he's stuck in much worse situation and he tells himself about this restlesness he felt then. i have the same feelings very often and this song reminds me of all "the wasted years so close behind" |

I can't believe I'm the first person who comments on this song. It's so movin'... I can really identify with this since I live on similar neighbourhood and don't feel there to safe. It's very depressing place
I’m just sitting here, I aint saying much I feel to cry
I’m sitting here depressed and I don’t know why
I try to pull myself together, tell myself fix up
And I keep myself from bawling but my eyes they erupt
Cos it’s the same old story, crazy boys keep getting on my nerves
And it’s the same old story, police don’t give me no peace
Yeah, it’s the same old story, friends slowly drifting from the ends
Yeah, it’s the same old story, I’ve sussed, there’s nobody I can trust |
