Cake – Love You Madly Lyrics 15 years ago
This song's a little of both. It does sound like he's currently in a relationship that's not really cutting it, and dreaming about what this should be – and hopefully soon will be with someone different, judging by the footsteps/car peeling away. It always reminds me of Weezer's _Good Life_.

Streetlight Manifesto – Down Down Down to Mephisto's Cafe Lyrics 17 years ago
Two things I wanna point out... I like the man with fire in his eyes being Jesus. We might be quick to associate him with this institution of religion & black/white that Tom's talking about (I know I was). But the next line says "You can play the role of rebel/ Just be sure to know your wrong from your right" Jesus himself was a rebel against the institution, and killed for it. And that's along the lines of the same cause Tom's sticking up for. Do your own damn thing.

Second is the way he talks about Hell: a cafe. You don't endure abuse and physical pain at a cafe, you lounge! Sip tea beneath umbrellas, and eat sandwiches over conversations with good friends. It's paradise! From an agnostic view this would be ironic (the afterlife is irrelevant). Atheist view, this would be sarcastic (you and your stupid hell don't exist! can't wait to go and sip tea with friends at the Devil's cafe). And from a religious view, maybe self-mockery or fatalism about going to Hell (I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints).

I think it's safe to say he's somewhere in the between...

Brand New – Degausser Lyrics 19 years ago
Interesting, Life is Art. At the Birmingham show he said "We met this guy in Mississippi [10 seconds of incoherent mumbles] so we decided to write a song about him."

I'm stuck on "Then you think you will inspire" coupled with "I can't shake this little feeling/ I'll never get anything right." There seem to be a slew of themes to this one but for me it's about realization of your own shortcoming. Imma send away for a lyrics book so I can unravel some more of this.

Brand New – The Archers Bows Have Broken Lyrics 19 years ago
I liked #9 too but this is a completely different song. I like the political message; #3 from the demos was a nice narrative but kind of melodramatic after a few listens. Cheers to their new stuff, I like the energy.

Less Than Jake – Gainesville Rock City Lyrics 19 years ago
It's home. It's easy to hate the thought of it, nobody wants to think about hanging around and never going anywhere. So we vow to run away and never come back, but at the same time it's impossible to deny because it's everything you know and love. And somehow Less Than Jake writing 60 million songs about it never gets old. Fuckin Gainesville Rock City. I love this band.

Taking Back Sunday – Divine Intervention Lyrics 19 years ago
This is one of my favorite songs off the new album. I compare it to New American Classic; I liked that song but it always struck me as drawn out and overdramatic.
hahahha and if this song is about John Nolan or a blowjob then my whole life is a lie. I think it's about old bitter lovers, what a commonplace for TBS. "five in the morning...." refers to the 5am breakdown&cry session that comes with arguing about this or that.

hey micsareforsinging, check out http://www.brandnewuk.co.uk/forum somewhat comforting to know there are bn fiends out there like myself.

can't wait to hear more new stuff. if the rumors are true and these are the songs that were CUT—and honestly, i can't imagine them releasing an album with 9 songs that their fanbase has listened to for months—then the new album should be nothing short of amazing.

damn.

The Impossibles – Descriptive Essay, 100 Words Lyrics 20 years ago
Excuse this mess as I pitch this fit
It bothers me more than I can admit
My face goes flush, my head starts to ache
.. I think this may be my biggest mistake

Impossibles are so damn genuine in everything they do. Hell of a song.

Fun Size – Pretentious Porch (Admiral Freebee) Lyrics 20 years ago
So damn earnest. It's about two friends starting to lead different lives and what a tragedy growing apart can be. I love the 'who am I to judge..' verse.
