No, they're right that it's third person.
He (3rd person masculine), she (3rd person feminine) and they (3d person plural). Second person is "you", "all of you" or, in the South, "All ya'll". |

jbo,
You're giving up on something you like just because it became popular? Are you trying to be different from everyone else? It seems worse to me to change who I am to try to be different from everyone else. Like what you like- if other people start to like it, so be it. |

| Dido – My Lover's Gone Lyrics
|
In Virgil's Aeneid, he tells about how Dido, queen of Carthage, and Aeneus fell in love when Aeneus traveled to her land. Another of Dido's suitors found out and jealously told his father, Jupiter, who sent Mercury to fetch Aeneus. Aeneus has no choice but to obey the gods, and so he gets his fleets ready to set sail again.
As he leaves, Dido builds a fire on the shoreline intending to burn all of his things (more importantly the bed that they were "married" in) and burns it as his ships sail off. In distress, she throws herself onto the pyre, onto the burning marital bed and is stabbed with his sword. Aeneus sees all of this as his ship sails away and immediately knows what happened. |

Most soccer games are split into halves, but I remember when I was younger that we used to have quarters instead (because we'd get tired out quickly). Perhaps that's what they're talking about? |

Muzi, do you have to keep telling people that you know them? It's really rather annoying, and I don't believe anyone cares. Also, having had a class with them or some similar "experience" does not dignify you as friends with them. |

| Less Than Jake – Never Going Back To New Jersey Lyrics

Haha, I'm from New Jersey. I love it, but it tends to get a really bad rep as trashy. I admit it's got it's bad areas (really south Jersey is hick and really north Jersey is all trashy), but there are a lot of nice parts. I don't really think it's about not wanting to return to NJ because it's NJ, but rather because there's a reason. I think it's about a girl there, that he used to be happy but now all they do is argue- "well I could talk, talk, talk, you'd say I'm wrong, wrong, wrong". And I don't think he wants to go back to that. |

| Hawksley Workman – We Will Still Need A Song Lyrics

I didn't really think of that as the main point. I figured that it was about a girlfriend that he's fighting with as they're both drunk (probably because whenever I get drunk I act tough and later get sad). I thought that they still needed a song, because even though they fight, they're still in love, hence the "to dance on our wedding day".
I'm probably terribly wrong, but that's what the piece means to me at least. Beautiful and catchy, no matter what the main point. |

I kinda thought it was about death, but sort of specifically death by cancer. I had chemo, and after the first couple of sessions, my hair fell out in clumps. That's just what it means to me at least. |

My friend just got back from Ireland and said that it played in all of the clubs there. When she put it on, I knew it instantly. We were trying to figure out where I've heard it, I swear it was in a movie or a commercial in America. Does anyone happen to know? |

| The Beautiful South – Artificial Flowers Lyrics

I'm not sure about the Anne Frank bit, but I think it's based of off "The Little Match Seller"/"The Little Match Girl" by Hans Christian Andersen, where the last lines say "In the dawn of morning there lay the poor little one, with pale cheeks and smiling mouth, leaning against the wall; she had been frozen to death on the last evening of the year; and the New-year’s sun rose and shone upon a little corpse! The child still sat, in the stiffness of death, holding the matches in her hand, one bundle of which was burnt. “She tried to warm herself,” said some. No one imagined what beautiful things she had seen, nor into what glory she had entered with her grandmother, on New-year’s day." |

I absolutely love this song, and I used to hate country music. There is a spelling mistake in the second to last part, where it says "hat" instead of had. Also, after "It was a dream we were living in" he says "I was the happiest I'd ever been, in" and then it goes back into the bridge. |

Well it is about his grandmother, so I supposed he is asking her if he can call her by her name rather than "grandma".
I think everyone who has lost someone severely close to them has gone through similar emotions, pretty easy to relate to. |

| Equalizer – Sweet Mary Lyrics

I can see where the marijunana references are, but I really do think they were talking about a woman. I actually think Mary was a hooker, which is why all of the men in the bar were "touched by Mary just like you".
I think that when he was younger he went to Jamaica, and met this woman and spent a year with her. He didn't realize how much she meant to him until he moved back home. Despite physically moving on with his life, he never got over her. No matter how much he smoked to try to forget her, she was always in his head.
He finally realized he needed her, and when he went back for her she had died. |
