I think everyone has talked about the lyrics....but what about the video?? To me it has a definite Sigur Ros feel to it. I think it's all about lost innocence and the transition from childhood to adolescence to adulthood. It starts off in slow-motion with all the band members surrounded by nature with not a building in sight..and it's as if they are reflecting on their childhood (lying in a bunch of leaves, playing soccer) and then shows them spray painting buildings and police (teenagers) and then it speeds up and shows powerlines, subways, traffic, office buildings to represent adulthood and the disintegration of their youth/innocence. I love that at the end of the video they are all lying on a concrete floor as opposed to the bed of leaves at the start. Great juxtoposition...losing yourself to the modern world. Wicked video. |

Art,
I think this song is referring to being in Montreal as a few of mppa's songs do....not in St. Catharines the city. Rue St. Catharines is the main street in Montreal...and he also talks about 'the saints river'....which refers to the St. Lawrence river that goes through Montreal. Anyway, great tune. Anyone know why mppa writes about Canada so often in their songs??? |
