Whoa, I always thought the lyric was "Is life the dog that bites you." As in referring to alcohol. Whatever. |

The more I listen to TJR the more I think it's just an analogy for how messed up our world is today (same with Whoracle and Colony). This song is about someone observing the downfall of our planet and how we've mistreated it (earth-mother has bleeding thighs, etc.)
And holy crap, that is some awesome guitar playing. |

This song definitely is meant to be percieved in different ways by different people. It's about nostalgic childhood memories of summers at cousins' houses that ended too fast (SW frequently refers to having fond memories of trains as a child) but some of the lyrics also have a darker tone which bring to mind the themes of the rest of In Absentia--serial killers, rapists, child abusers, etc. However most of IA's songs are meant to have multiple meanings. |

I'm pretty sure this song is about Fred West (look him up); he killed people and hid their bodies by adding walls to his house. He also had a (extremely fucked up) family complete with murder, torture, incest, etc. |

I think this song is about the character in the film Deadwing, who is "socially damaged in some way" (I think that was SW's words). Or possibly about the creep on the train with the laptop. |

It's about someone trying to find purpose or meaning in their life and failing. And, considering this song is on In Absentia, it's probably about someone's road to insanity. |

Tbrings: It's only obvious if you're a retard.
This song is just about empty, emotionless sex. I'm sure we can all identify with it to some degree or another :( |

The best theory I've heard is that this song refers to a British doctor, Harold Shipman, who killed hundreds of his patients by overdosing them on morphine and other drugs and watched them die. This fits quite well with the imagery of veins, dead bodies and "drilling down inside." |

I don't have any idea what it's supposed to mean, but it's one of my favorite songs ever.
Also, I think the lyrics were written by Alan Duffy and not Steven Wilson. |

Incest? you shouldn't post anymore.
This album is based on a movie script SW co-wrote with someone else. It's a surreal ghost story. This song is based on a scene where the main character is riding a train and sees a vision of the ghost of a dead boy who appears throughout the film. "Lazarus" came back from the dead, so do ghosts, hence the name. |

This is a hell of a sexy song. It is from In Absentia, but all the songs on that album have multiple meanings or ways they can be interpreted. Steven Wilson has also noted this one is about " a night by the Dead Sea." However the whole point of In Absentia's lyrics is to let people make what they will of them, whatever SW meant them to be about. |

This album is about different ways people try to make their lives significant. This is one of the more overt ones. It's about someone trying to make something notable of themself through acts of violence. Among other things. |
