Pentagram – 1000s In The Eastland Lyrics | 17 years ago |
At the time of its release, the band which released this song was known as Pentagram. Hell, it says "PENTAGRAM" in big letters on the cover of the album, right above the picture of... a pentagram. This song is very much by Pentagram. Yes, there is another Pentagram from Virginia. We get it. And yeah this song kicks ass. |
Tarkan – Uzun Ince Bir Yoldayim Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Pretty sure "Gidiyorum gündüz gece" means "I'm going from daytime to night" - gündüz being daytime, gece being evening/night, and gidiyorum being the first-person conjugation of the verb "gitmek" (to go). Whether that's deeply symbolic of some kind of moral or emotional descent, or whether it's a commentary on the repetitive nature of life is anyone's guess. The Turkish Metal band Mezarkabul(lit. "acceptance to the grave")/(previously "Pentagram"), do a cover of this song (or possibly the other way around). |
Alestorm – Wenches and Mead Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Arr this be a mighty good song, me hearties! |
Gogol Bordello – Sacred Darling Lyrics | 17 years ago |
First verse: "I am so glad you stayed true to your obsessions And filed the rest of questions under false I am so glad you never took their offers I am so glad you never returned their calls Hey darlin', darlin', darlin' (etc.)" |
Gogol Bordello – When the Trickster Starts A-Poking (Bordello Kind of Guy) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
After the "bad priest" bit, and the two ukrainian lines which follow it, the lyrics are: "[Ukrainian], do you deny? Or a-be a good Siddhartha (oh try oh try!)" He's offering different types of lifestyles (to be like Siddhartha would be to abstain from material wealth and physical pleasures). In the end, this is not for him - He's just a bordello kinda guy! |
Mayhem – Freezing Moon Lyrics | 17 years ago |
[Reborn] - Well you said following the freezing moon was a metaphorical instruction to commit suicide. I jokingly wondered if this included instructions for the next album cover. No, I'm not planning to follow Dead's example. |
Dead Kennedys – A Growing Boy Needs His Lunch Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Grimeboy - same here, Frankenchrist is the best DK album in my opinion. Political concepts on this album are conveyed with their signature clarity and biting wit even more than on their other albums. It's also by far one of their most diverse albums, and each song's style seems to have been carefully thought out in order to further get across the point. |
Gogol Bordello – Mussolini vs. Stalin Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Their fish-catching results could partly reflect their success as dictators. Stalin died at a ripe old age having utterly transformed his country and left a legacy as the second most notorious tyrant of modern history, while Mussolini was slaughtered by his own people after utterly failing at everything. That Mussolini was shaving and whistling while Stalin kept an eye on the Barbie might indicate Stalin's pragmatism and ruthlessness as oppose to Mussolini's vanity, empty posturing and ultimate ridicule. The idea of Mussolini and Stalin wrestling as oppose to seriously fighting could refer to their respective participations in the Second World War - the two never really had a proper showdown: Mussolini mucked around in North Africa, Stalin mullered Hitler on the Eastern Front. |
Dream Theater – Endless Sacrifice Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this might be my favorite song in the world. So perfectly executed and beautiful, and it struck such a chord with me when my girlfriend moved hundreds of miles away. It's deeply emotional and compelling but ends semi-positively. And the music is so good. |
Edguy – Lavatory Love Machine Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Instead of a mosh pit, Edguy had a conga-line going in the crowd for this song at Hellfest 07. Funnest performance ever - too bad it got cut short by Megadeth starting early :( |
Mayhem – Freezing Moon Lyrics | 17 years ago |
[Reborn] - I was referring to the cover of the dawn of the black hearts bootleg. |
Nile – Masturbating the War God Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Read the syntax of my sentance - "NOT that this album ISN'T awesome as well as hilarious". Double negative. The album is awesome. |
Stryper – Free Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I hate this song, and I figured you should too. |
Stryper – To Hell With The Devil Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Stryper do suck, but this song is good. If only they'd have deconverted and written some better and less evangelistic music. |
Edguy – Lavatory Love Machine Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Not just that - you can read it as him actually boning her on the way down (as the plane crashes). What a way to go. Can't wait to see these guys live at HellFest this year! |
An Albatross – The Revolutionary Politics of Dance Lyrics | 18 years ago |
By far the best song on the album. |
Mayhem – Freezing Moon Lyrics | 18 years ago |
...and get pictures taken for album covers? |
Nile – Masturbating the War God Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Something tells me that Nile do have penis on the brain a bit. Fun Fact: The Black Seeds of Vengeance album features the word "Phallus" or variations of it (including 'ithyphallic') no less that 7 (seven) times. Not that this album isn't awesome as well as hilarious. |
Nile – The Black Flame Lyrics | 18 years ago |
The first two lines, and the way they are sung, absolutely make this song. With... Draw... Thy... Phaaaaallluuusss... |
Dangerous Toys – Sport'n A Woody Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I can't believe nobody's commented this song! It's possibly one of the greatest pieces of music ever written... So crude, yet so clever. |
Savatage – This Isn't What We Meant Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think you've pretty much nailed it there. The Siege of Sarajevo ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_sarajevo ) was pretty horrible, and certainly raised the problem of evil and suffering with regard to religion. Not sure if Jon and the band would reject religion outright though, if you look at songs like Believe, they do have strong spiritual and religious connotations. |
Dokken – Cry of the Gypsy Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song is clearly about the Cry of the Gypsy. |
Devo – Uncontrollable Urge Lyrics | 18 years ago |
The "neng neng neng" noises during the post-chorus are awesome. |
Devo – Mongoloid Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I don't think the protagonist of the song is a literal down's syndrome patient - to me it seems like the song addresses an average hat-wearing, job-having, bacon-winning member of society: and what an idiot he is. |
N.W.A. – Express Yourself Lyrics | 18 years ago |
The video to this song is hilarious. Halfway through there's a scene with a group of bizarre 80's bodybuilders with mullets doing weights in the street. |
Savatage – This Isn't What We Meant Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Not nuclear apocalypse - it's a continuation of the Bosnian theme of the Dead Winter Dead album. The aged cello player returns to Sarajevo to find it a bombed out mess. From the liner notes above the song: "The old man has toured the Earth Playing cello for the learned Of a thousand foreign cities Only now he had returned To the city he had left once To the place we he was raised In the house where he was born in At the fires he now gazed" |
Metal Church – Metal Church Lyrics | 18 years ago |
By the way, these lyrics are slightly incorrect. "The crazies stand before them while the others wait" is actually "The priest he stands before them, tells them why they are this way". the first [inaudible] is "by the hand of Oberon, dark into the deep" the second [inaudible] is "While the men of Earth they sleep, they haven't any clue". |
Metal Church – Metal Church Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song epitomises and defines heavy metal. It is impossible not to rock out and play air guitar and drums while listening to this song. |
Savatage – Hall Of The Mountain King Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I'm almost certain it's an original. It was basically Savatage's flagship song for years on end. ...And yeah looking at my liner notes it was written by Jon Oliva and Criss Oliva, the band's frontmen. Genuine, original Savatage all the way (except the Prelude to Madness intro, obviously) |
Dokken – Dream Warriors Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Yeah, the video for this song is hilarious, with band members randomly crashing through the walls of the house and stuff. |
Savatage – White Witch Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Could be about a literal White Witch coming to get the protagonist. She's so busy being an alchemist/potion-maker (on the glass is a poison powder) that she rarely has a chance to shower (hence her "sweating intensely" is far more noticable). |
Savatage – Strange Wings Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think it's about a guy who falls in love with a hang-gliding mime. Hang gliders look pretty strange and wing like, and mimes generally wear a "thin disguise" of makeup and gaudy clothing. Also they sometimes have tears painted on their faces (still tears she cries - still because a painted tear does not move). |
Savatage – Doesn't Matter Anyway Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song, part of the Bosnia-themed concept album Dead Winter Dead, is about Sarajevan arms dealers indiscriminately selling weapons to both Muslims and Serbs. |
Savatage – Legions Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This is one of the best pieces of music ever written. |
Savatage – Hall Of The Mountain King Lyrics | 19 years ago |
The "Ah, ah, ah" bit is awesome. |
Dokken – Dream Warriors Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Dokken are amazing and completely underrated and underpublicized. Everyone's heard of Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, but there are so many underdogs of the 80's like Dokken who were just as good. |
