Hot Water Music – Russian Roulette Lyrics 19 years ago
sounds like he wrote this song after watching "the Deer Hunter", or maybe i just read it after watching it..."It strikes when you've thought you've won, And the delicate balance Won't survive the turbulence. Now, enter the escape From every thing you've made, Cause something wrong inside Won't let you live your life." either way, doesn't matter. It about self-destruction. It doesn't have to relate to a particular story, etc. Its a universal idea...

Hot Water Music – Better Sense Lyrics 19 years ago
obviously its about what they feel to be "better sense". haha. No, what they are saying effectively is "use your mind", question the questions, do not be afraid of living your life how you see fit...work against accepted truths. However, as the song emphasizes, doing so allows you to "to grow in soul without gold or praised lies". Therefore endeavour to find truths through the muck of society which give "the sheep"(population of followers) a safe and convienant world with little substance to their lives...you can also say its about courage in a way, courage to go your own way....very similar to manual. But again most of their songs carry the motif.

Hot Water Music – Floor Lyrics 19 years ago
Similar thematically to many of their songs...I'm thinking of manual, trademark, its hard to know etc. But really, he is overcome with important questions about life, "when did it start when did it end." I'm not particulary sure what they mean when they say "who dies when we grow" (kindof ambiguous) but I take it to be asking in a sense who loses when one gains...or as when one grows inside, does a part of you die..
share your journey, share your life, feelings, what you have learned...it will help cultivate and make you grow as individuals. thats basically it.

Hot Water Music – Eating the Filter Lyrics 19 years ago
perhaps next time someone isnt sure about a word or meaning of a title...I don't know, look it up maybe...idiots. Words have multiple meanings too...its not merely a sealent... For example, one defintion is "copy to fill space between more important articles in the layout of a magazine or newspaper" and another is
filler "refers to episodes in a continuity-based series that are not required to understand the basic story arcs." Obviously, it is fluff, insignificant material that diverts from the reality of things, meaning, etc...I don't know, the reoccuring theme that HWM always sing about. Hmm and if you are unconvinced...how about the first line..."how could i fill myself with nothing?"...translation...how could I fill myself with...i don't know FILLER...

BoySetsFire – Handful Of Redemption Lyrics 19 years ago
If you are going to make assertions use evidence...not all opinions are equally valid. Not to say mine is, but I'm tired of people not actually using the song to derive interpretations...
Clearly this song is about the suffering and pains of life (the sick and tired refrain of everyday)...and Nathan is asking the question..."How do we find a little peace of heaven IN OUR TIME, before we find acceptance." Its a spiritual call to arms in a sense, where rather than waiting for happiness, accepting misery in the world and feeling the need to wait for the empty promises of a mythical realm of heaven, it becomes the responsibility of us as individuals to create heaven on earth where "a handful of redemption is all we need".(all of humanity I assume by we) As he goes on to say, "how long should we wait before we take instead of waiting to be free". Again how long should we waste our lives waiting for joy (the idea of heaven), before we TAKE matters into our own hands..."all it takes is a step you never saw, and all burdens fall away"

Alkaline Trio – The Poison Lyrics 20 years ago
I always had the impression that posion here refers to opiates, as it often appears throughout the canonization of literature in relation to a sapping of the soul, imagination, inspiration etc...There are some verses that seem to reinforce this notion for me, primarily "pain in my back, that lasts on my face", indicating what could conceivably mean withdrawal pains, pains that have "lasted on the face" perhaps both physically and pyschologically. "Dreams covered in piss and a poison that took my soul", is consistent with other creative figures in other epochs who have made similar remarks, be it Percy Brysse Shelley, Tennyson, Sandburg, et cetera, you get the point. The remark about A rooftop in London looking like Brooklyn is significant because a sapping of the soul/fancy/imagination would diminish any preconceived romantic notions one would have concerning a London view. As for any other interpretative inference regarding this lyric, I welcome a conversation.
