"The mask I polish in the evening By the morning looks like shit" -he's being fake with other people at parties, etc and uses drugs and/or alcohol to create a personality.. but the morning it wears off and he's back to his normal self and he doesn't think people will like it. "I know you have a heavy heart... And many men stronger than me Have thrown their backs out trying to lift it But me, I'm not a gamble You can count on me to split The love I sell you in the evening By the morning won't exist" -to me he's saying the girl has no heart and she's always depressed and other guys have tried to make her happy with their words/love but it just doesn't work. so he think it's pointless to lie to her and say he loves her when they both know he doesn't and is just using her for sex. "You're looking skinny like a model With your eyes all painted black Keep going to the bathroom Always say you'll be right back Well, it takes one to know one, kid I think you've got it bad" -i can't decide between coke or an eating disorder. when i first listened to this part, coke definitley came in mind with the whole "keep going to the bathroom" part because i know many coke users will go to the bathroom alot during dinner/parties etc. if it was bulimia would you KEEP going to the bathroom? i don't really know because i don't know anyone with bulimia nor do i have it.. so i can't really say. i just always thought bulimics would go to the bathroom like once after they'd finished eating. and yeah, if they're at a party i don't think there would be alot of food.. "kid i think you've got it bad" to me is saying its a drug addiction because when you do coke, you just wanna keep doing more and more.. "And if you promise to stay conscious I will try and do the same Yeah, we might die from medication But we sure killed all the pain" -this is my favorite part. it's just so honest why he's doing drugs/drinking...to forget about the pain. this makes me think he's popping pills too. "But what was normal in the evening By the morning seems insane" -when you're messed up you do crazy things and in the morning you wake up and you're like "WTF i can't believe i did that!" "I'm not sure what the trouble was That started all of this The reasons all have run away But the feeling never did It's not something I would recommend But it is one way to live" -he doesn't really remember/know why he started getting into drugs/drinking/this sort of depression and it's not something he'd wish upon anyone else, but it's the only way he knows how to live and it's complicated but he's used to it. |

| i think at first this person was depressed..then all of a sudden something changes and they get happy.. ."There was a loophole in my dreaming so I got out of it" like he got out of his depression.. everything was new/different b.c before he looked at it a different way. and when he says "There's nothing I can do for you, you can't do for yourself" its like hes talking from experience like he was depressed and it was up to him to change his mindset for the better.. it seems like the lesson to be learned it you must change the way you live to be happier and even a smile from a stranger can cure sadness! :) | |

| ^yah i agree it has got a eerie/mysterious feel to it! ..i love the lyrics! i think its about 2 people and they just use each other for company and they both know what they're getting out of it (sex) ... theyve both been hurt before and the girl doesnt wanna deal w/that but the guy kinda does because hes kinda trying to be romantic w/the whole "I poured some wine, I asked your name" and shes just in it for the sex and to forget about being hurt and just "asked the time"..she uses her tounge to keep him from trying to make conversation or learn anything about her. but then it gets confusing b/c in the part where it says "i want a lover i dont have to love" it's like he doesnt wanna even try to have a relationship but just sex whereas earlier he did... but i love the last part... "love's an excuse to get hurt" ... its very cynical like whenever you let yourself fall in love w/someone you're bound to alwyas get hurt, but he doesnt care b.c the pain is worth it. | |
