| Arctic Monkeys – Despair in the Departure Lounge Lyrics | 19 years ago |
this song is pretty clear cut. the man in the song is recently broken up with a close girlfriend, and is now traveling (probably on tour) "he's pining for her in a people carrier there might be buildings and pretty things to see like that but architecture won't do" he misses the girl, all the pretty places they're going through aren't helping him forget he's so sad that, "don't even try to cheer him- because it just won't happen." he gets the feelign again on a plane... and wants to call her... but he can't, they're broken up, it would do no good. he can call his friends rodney and dell, but he needs her, not them. we've all had that feeling of near illness over a girl we want to be with and just... can't. greta song. |

| Arctic Monkeys – Leave Before the Lights Come On Lyrics | 19 years ago |
the song is about a man with a g/f. during a night out at a bar or club, he and another pretty girl excahnge some words. "my friend fanicies you, what a way to begin it all"... and then, of course, they end up in bed together. the next morning, before the girl wakes up and the lights in the room go on, the man ducks out, "quick let's leave before the lights come on... so that you don't have to see what you've done." (cheated) "and i suppose thats the price you pay..." the price, cheating on your g/f "although it wasn't what it was" even though it was purley alchohal and sex that led to the cheating, nothing more "she's thinking he looks different today." the g/f notices something instantly different about her b/f the next morning. "and, well, there's nothing left to guess now." the g/f is well aware he cheated on her- without him even saying it. she can just tell. the best line: "how can you wake up with someone you dont love? and not feel slightly phased by it?" |

| Bob Dylan – Mr. Tambourine Man Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song is NOT about drugs. besides, just because a song may mention drugs or drug related themes doesn't mean its ABOUT DRUGS. the meaning of this song is much deeper than that. it's actually not that hard to grasp. it's about a sad, lonely man. there is a tambourine man playing on the street. the lonely man, extremely depressed and regretful, who feels completly alone in the city, comes up to tambourine man to hear him play. he's had such a horrible time but has no where to go, so he finds comfort in the music and just asks the tambourine man to keep on playing. the music helps him take his mind off his worries. "let me forget about today until tomorrow". he says to the tambourine man, in the best verse: "Then take me (with your music) disappearin' through the smoke rings of my mind, Down the foggy ruins of time, far past the frozen leaves, The haunted, frightened trees, out to the windy beach, Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow. Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free, Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands, With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves, Let me forget about today until tomorrow." a BEAUTIFUL song... and that is the real meaning |

WHAT AN AMAZING SONG. so beautifully played, sung- and oh those lyrics. so poetic. |

| Saves the Day – Don't Go Outside Lyrics | 20 years ago |
for the people who don't know what this is, it is an In Reverie B-Side that was available at the saves the day secret site. it can probably be found now on any major p2p. anyway the song is clearly about the way TV news reports on horrifying stories, which in some cases, are designed to keep us scared. but rather than being ABOUT that, the song just kind of mocks people who buy into this fear, because we shouldn't. it's a cool song, faster than most of In Reverie, but from the same sessions. check it out. |

| The Clash – Silicone on Sapphire Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| this is another sandanista! throwaway. it's a sound effect covered instrumental of "washington bullets", also on sandanists!. the song consists of clash member's saying things, mostly involving technology of sorts. all in all it seems meaningless. | |
| 311 – Thank Your Lucky Stars Lyrics | 20 years ago |
i wouldnt say this song is POLITICAL, it talks about the horror of the deaths around the world (not just the iraq war), and the people who are apathetic to it all. it kind of encourages people to know whats going on an work for a change. it's also a song telling us to be happy we have the life we have in america, where we do have freedoms, and don't live in constant fear. |

| Pink Floyd – Wish You Were Here Lyrics | 20 years ago |
wow someone actually said this was about THE WAR? what a fucking idiot. this song is about SYD BARRET. syd barret lost a good part of his mind to physcadelic drugs in the late 60's. this song was written in his honor. syd could not even recogonize a pink floyd song when he heard it. he also didn't recognize that this song was about him. hence the recognation lines, "so you think you can tell heaven from hell?" he's so messed up mentally, that all these questions are reasonable. i wish you were here- is simply, david gilmore, roger waters, and the rest of pink floyd- wishing that syd was back- because though he's physically here, his mind left years ago. it's a wonderful song. |

| you are wrong... idiot.. | |
| The Clash – I'm Not Down Lyrics | 20 years ago |
it's simply about not giving up, and believing in yourself. don't let anything drag you down or crush your spirits. a great song. |
| The Clash – Death or Glory Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| it's about stuggling to be someone important, and failing. we grow up thinking we can be whatever we want, until reality crashes down, and we end up corrupt, or not doing what we wanted at all. this is such a common theme, hence, "death or glory becomes just another story". | |
| The Clash – The Card Cheat Lyrics | 20 years ago |
"there's a solitary man crying "hold me" but it's only because he's lonely" what a great and clever line. apparently, the song is about a man whose down on his luck and decides to cheat in a big game of cards to win money. but when the dealer discovers his cheating, he is shot dead. jones' highlights the pointlessness in the mans actions, and how his death is a waste, and warns people against these kinds of actions. though i like this song, its probably the worst on "london calling". the main problem is a lack of catchy hooks (which clash songs are usually overflowing with). plus the huge wall of strings and horns and piano just adds too much weight to what is essentially a throwaway track. |
| The Clash – The Magnificent Seven Lyrics | 20 years ago |
one CLASH's great handful of hiphop/dance songs. there's so many great lines, all delivered with sloppy perfection by strummer. with an extraordinarily awesome bass line by paul simonon (though, his lines are ALWAYS awesome) basically the song just recaps the life in a day of a working man. and as we all know, the clash look down on the 9-5 working life. "the magnifigance seven" is the "magnificint" 7 days in a week. this is of course irony. CHEESEBOIGER!! |
| Death Cab for Cutie – Brothers on a Hotel Bed Lyrics | 20 years ago |
it's, in a way, about both, growing up, and a relationship. the man in the song doesn't know who he is anymore. he's aged. he has this longing to escape- escape the city, "escape to sea like a navy officer" (a metaphore), and, apparently, escape a relationship.. in the end, the 2 are sleeping on opposite sides of a bed, not holding each other. "brothers on a hotel bed", when 2 brothers share a bed when vacationing at a hotel, they each take a side and sleep separatly. this is the metaphore here for the end of the relationship, they're no longer lovers. |

| The Beatles – Lady Madonna Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Prostitute? maybe. but regardless, the song is about a single mother with multiple children but no money. the woman is in such bad shape, that even the baby, breat feeding, wonders how she feeds the other children. what a wonderful song and wonderful performance by Paul mccartney. it's the song that brought the beatles (and the mainstream) back to basic rock, away from the studio experimentation and pshycadelia that dominated through 1966-1967. |
| The Beatles – Lovely Rita Lyrics | 20 years ago |
very simply, a story about a romantic relationship between a man and a meter maid (the people that give you parking tickets when ur parking meter has no money in it). it's one of the many gems on pepper's, really upbeat and quick, an awesome piano solo, and one weeeeird and trippy ending. also has the infamous line, "took her home, and nearly made it", which people used as evidance of the "paul is dead hoax." they said the line hinted at paul mccartney dying in a car accident. but of course, the "paul is dead" hoax is just plain stupid. |
| The Clash – Version Pardner Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| a dub/ instrumental version of "junco pardner". the song is about a drunk. this version is one of sandanista!'s various odds and ends. kind of a throwaway, but still a cool instrumental. | |
| The Clash – Stay Free Lyrics | 20 years ago |
this song is about a love story/friendship story. in the song, jones and his friend share high school and other experiances, until his friend ends up in prison for a small crime. the end of the song kind of says that the 2 grew apart and lost touch, but that they'll always remember what happened. it ends with mick's encouraging words to his friend, "go easy, step lightly, be free" one of the clash's more personal songs. great tune. |
| The Clash – Ivan Meets G.I. Joe Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Topper Headon sings this song. He also wrote much of "rock the casbah" and plays bass, drums, and piano on that song... not many people know that. the song is about an imaginary battle between 2 figures GI Joe (representing USA) and Ivan (representing USSR). Ivans powers include radiation and chemicals (all big cold war fears). the end mentions everyone leaving to watch China, another communist country |
| The Clash – If Music Could Talk Lyrics | 20 years ago |
this is one of the many interesting ditties on SANDANISTA! it features a wonderful saxaphone solo, over a very cool reggae flavored groove. also, it's 2 voices talking at the same time- one in each channel. if you listen to one channel with the other one on mute, you can hear each individual thing better. it's hard to make much sense of the lyrics. it could be relatively meaningless. though there are references to other influential muscians, such as bo diddly, jimi hendrix, and buddy holly (among others). |
| The Clash – Clampdown Lyrics | 20 years ago |
i don't know that this song is talking about Hitler youths... maybe, but i dunno.. moreso i think it's just a song about the frustration of a money driven society. we live to work. in time, all wide eyed ambition turns into settling for a crappy job to make enough money to get by. it's about how "working for the clampdown" crushes the human spirit. you start working during the best years of your life, and before you know it, you're too old and never did what you really wanted. it's a great and insanely catchy song by the CLASH. i love when joe strummer kicks in with "BUT! you grew up and you calm down!" he and the beat sound like they're marching in a parade. |
| The Clash – Police on My Back Lyrics | 20 years ago |
a great cover by the CLASH. it's just about being frustrated from constant bombardment by the police. i love the way the lead guitar sounds like a siren, and the way mick jones violently spits the phrase, "what have i done!". great song. |
| The Clash – Jimmy Jazz Lyrics | 20 years ago |
this song is simply a "get away song". strummer, like dylan and springsteen, is fond of romantic and daring characters with wacky names, like Jimmy Jazz. the police are on the search for jimmy jazz. i love the way strummer basically scats at the end. |
| The Clash – Charlie Don't Surf Lyrics | 20 years ago |
this song is definatly about the US's governments foriegn policy of spreading western culture customs to other nations. charlie (code for the enemy army, specifically the vietcong) "charlie don't surf and we think he should" - the enemy doesn't surf, a western custom, and we want them to be like us and surf. also references to hamburgers and coka cola, american customs. it's a very pretty song, too. |
