| Elton John – The Measure of a Man Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I think this one is saying that, it's not about what you accomplish in life that makes you a man, it's who you are. The song seems to be about some guy who's been on a long journey, maybe fame, and now he's back where he started. It's saying that it's what's inside that guy that makes him a man, not where's been. He's returned to where he came from and he's a lot older now, but he's still the same man he's always been. There was really no better song choice to use for the ending credits of Rocky V. This song pretty much tells the story of the first 5 Rocky films. How he came from nothing, rose to fame, and even though it was taken away and he ended up back on the streets where he came from, he was still the same man he was all those years ago. That's the real test of a man. |

| Embrace (UK) – World at Your Feet Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song is amazing but it's pretty upsetting to listen to. It just reminds me of the start of summer 2006 when everyone was hopeful for England. I love when something like the World Cup is happening and the whole country comes together to root for their team. Especially in a time of year like summer. This song takes me back to weeks building up to the World Cup. Ah well, 2010 ey? | |
| Funeral for a Friend – The Art Of American Football Lyrics | 19 years ago |

The government and how everyone is supposed to blindly buy into whatever they're selling. "Tell me nothing but home truths.......on the black and white screen...." Possibly referring to news broadcasts. When you think about it, they could actually lie and we'd probably believe it. Imagine if 9/11 didn't really happen and for a few minutes they computer animated the attack and aired it? It'd be sick yeah but I mean the idea that for that couple of minutes we'd sincerely believe it. Unfortunately that wasn't the case but it's just an example. So I just think the song is about how the government have the power to say anything when half the time they seem to be feeding everyones lies to sugar coat the mess they've made. |

| Funeral for a Friend – Rookie of the Year Lyrics | 19 years ago |

It sounds to me like it's about a woman who's in an abusive marriage but still can't bring herself to leave the man. "The promise that he made left broken on the floor" Probably referring to the vow to love and honour when the couple got married. He metaphorically left it broken on the floor. "The bruise left round your heart left you begging for more" Normally in these relationships as much crap as the woman takes, she can't bring herself to leave. So clearly she wouldn't be begging for more but I think that's what Matt's getting at. The pre chorus is pretty self explanatory. She feels worthless 'cause he uses her for a punching bag. She feels her only light will come from hoping in desperation. "In the face of all I've seen, I am open to everything". Maybe that means she's seen so much from him that nothing is a shock anymore. She's used to it all. "Time will take us all and drown us in its wake and clearly I will stay and wipe the blood from your white wedding dress" I THINK this is the woman accepting that she isn't gonna leave this man and as time goes on all she can do in response to the abuse is wipe the blood from her dress as if nothing happened. |

| AFI – Death of Seasons Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
"OK Its time for me to speak up about something that really pisses me off. All these kids that have "been listening to AFI since the begining" and "hate AFI cuz they sold out" really piss me off. #1 I dont even know what the truye meaning of "sold out" means. Second of all this album is the most technical album they have released to date. Yes it has some songs that seem to be getting radio play and they I dont like seeing that but I think its amazing that a band that "ive listend to from the beginning" got their chance and we all got to witness them rise from ashes and blossom into what they are today. Thei next album is goona kick ass, hopefully with alot more of davey screaming" To sell out really is to change who and what you are for the sake of more money/fame/success. Take Lostprophets. They have a killer first album, then suddenly they've completely turned into polished up pretty boys with a sound so pathetically toned down that Snow White would take a shit on it given the chance. And look where it got them, they're playing arenas and Ian Watkins has turned into a typical scene idol pin up. It's like selling your soul to the devil. You sell yourself to the blind mainstream fans in order for success. Now that we've cleared up the definition, let's apply it to proving why AFI have not sold out. If you listen to AFI's albums in order, you'll notice that they get a bit more "epic" on each one. They start to incorporate additional instruments and more melody starts to come in. The sound grows if you like, but as it does, there's still that distinct AFI sound in there. The sound that tells you that AFI are still AFI and always will be. The difference between Lostprophets' first 2 albums is so huge that they don't even sound like the same band. AFI always sound like AFI aswell as diversing in sound. Take a song from Decemberunderground and then one from Black Sails, and as diverse to each other as they may be, they both sound distinctly like AFI. If they wanted to sell out, they'd have watered down their songs and started acting like musical robots as soon as they had the chance. The fact that it's taken them so long to get to the big epic sound that they have gotten to now says that AFI are not a band that have sold out. There's a difference between selling out and just doing well. AFI do the latter. End of. |

| Blink-182 – Carousel Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
"once you become popular you make more money and therefore sellout" What a fucking idiot. God I hate people like you. When are you cynical bastards gonna get it through your heads that making money is not selling out? You say getting popular is selling out? So more people taking interest in Blink 182s music means the band have sold out does it? As time went on they got more and more fans as their music expanded, and because it appealed to more people, they started selling more records, hense more money. That's not selling out you moron, that's doing well. I fucking hate these cunts that sit around calling any band sell out when they have more than 10,000 fans or whatever. You need to actually think of how logically incorrect your statement is. And then if you still have thoughts as stupid as that, stab yourself in the face. |

| AFI – This Time Imperfect Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I think it's another song about the fans that think AFI have sold out. This seems to be a common topic for AFI songs or maybe it's just an easy meaning to attach to Havok's lyrics, but a lot of the more recent songs seem to be about being hurt by someone. I think this one is about the fans that he loves that have turned on him because of how he's a lot more image concerned now and how his songs are a lot more mainstream and how they've been on MTV etc. Havok just wants to keep his music hurt and it's killing him that fans that he adores are reacting in this way. So if you look at the lyrics: "I cannot leave here, I cannot stay" He feels trapped because although he knows he shouldn't change and should just follow his heart, he feels like he's letting fans down and doesn't want to upset anyone. "Forever haunted more than afraid" This kinda puts emphasis on how he feels. He isn't just afraid of how his fans are taking the change in AFI, he's haunted by things that fans have said about them. It's as if he's trying to say how much it's getting to him in the most intense way possible. "Asphyxiate on words I would say" To me that sounds like he's saying he's not as comfortable as he was say around Black Sails. Now he can't just say things as openly as he used to be because he's scared of upsetting people. "I'm drawn to a blackened sky as I turn blue" This just means he sees the sky turning black as he turns blue with cold. Just an emphasis on emotion. "There are no flowers, no not this time. There'll be no angels gracing the lines, just these stark words I find" I reckon this is how Davey feels about some of the reception he's got off some of the older early AFI fans. He's saying how it's not all flowers and angels and smiles and happiness now. All he's getting are the "stark words" that he finds in himself. "I'd show a smile but I'm too weak, I'd share with you, could I only speak, just how much this hurts me" He's too weak to smile. He can't even say how much he's hurt because it's so bad he feels he can't even speak. In the second verse, "make believe" is how the fans now see him. He's gone from the energetic punk rock vocalist to someone who seems like an icon with his make up and glamourous hairstyles. It's like he's not a human being anymore, he's gone beyond the line and now it's as if he's not even real. "Seems no-one will appear and make me real" He wishes someone would assure him that he's still Davey Havok and he still fronts the same AFI that wrote songs like Third Season and Total Immortal. However he feels like he has no-one now. "I'd tell you how it haunts me...you don't care that it haunts me" It's like he's trying to get across how much he's upset by the fans attitudes towards the modern AFI, but it's like they don't care. They're ignorant because AFI started appealling to the mainstream and some fans didn't like it, so they refuse to listen to reason. They just wanna label Havok as a sell out. So, that's my interpretation of This Time Imperfect. I could be very wrong but I think my theory fits so I hope you enjoy pondering it to yourself. |

| AFI – Morningstar Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I'm not too good with interpretations so bear with me if this sucks, but here's what I think may be the meaning: I think maybe this song is about someone, maybe even Davey, pondering his talent and whether he should make it heard. Maybe this is how he felt before he joined AFI. We all know Davey Havok can be quite a timid and unstable person emotionally, so to join a band it must have been difficult. It's like he knew he had the tools to do it, but wasn't sure whether he had the spirit to. Well, not so much spirit, but y'know, bottle? A lot of the lines don't really fit with this theory as far as I can see 'cause like I said I'm not too good at this. But if you think of the term "star beneath the stairs", that could be a metaphor for someone hiding even though they have a lot of talent, enough to make them a "star". "I saw a star beneath the stairs" is Davey seeing someone with the potential to make life changing music, and then in the chorus "Am I the star beneath the stairs?" Davey is asking himself is the hidden star him. He wants to make music but he's scared of the fame, scared of the attention he'd get, and he's wondering who will support him. Maybe I'm completely off the mark but that's something I kinda get from the song. |

| AFI – The Missing Frame Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I saw AFI live last night in Manchester and Davey just before they went into The Missing Frame said "This song is dedicated to a city that has done so much for music". He didn't say which city, and I dunno if that has any relevence to the actual lyrics but I just thought I'd post that and see if it's any help. | |
| Pantera – Hollow Lyrics | 19 years ago |

No he says "month". If his friend is in a vegetable state, how would they talk on the phone the previous night? This song is amazing. Definately about a friend of his who's as good as dead and Phil is angry at God for taking him from him. Another masterpiece from the cowboys. |

| Funeral for a Friend – Sonny Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I'll take a stab at this one but don't quote me on it: From the lyrics, I'd say it's about how the world has gone down the shitter in terms of people being respected and accepted for what they are. "You are beautiful, no matter what they say". For example, a guy dressed in fully gothic outfit can walk down the street and be called things that can really upset him, but at the end of the day, he's still a human and should be accepted no matter how he is. But that doesn't happen, so the line is sort of a message to people who aren't accepted because of their physical appearrance to not let it bring them down and to get on with life because if they take such people on, they're just gonna give them what they want, and the world will remain what it is now, which is not good. "Tired childish games swept us all away". People don't really think into why they make life hell for others. For most, they have no real problem with how their victim looks, yet they do it anyway? Why? Who knows. Maybe because that's what society accepts now, someone who belittles someone else purely on physical appearance. Or maybe they're just looking for something to do. Either way, it's as if the offenders are, well, tired and childish, and the "games" are the people abusing others, which have swept everyone away. "What have we done?" This could mean two things. It could be from the victim's point of view, as in "what have I done to deserve all this, I just wanna be me", or it could be in a general point of view as in "what have we done, what have we turned this world into?". So yeah, basically I'd say this song is about how violent and disrespectful this world has become, and how people don't feel safe to walk the streets looking a certain way anymore because they feel they'll be attacked. Like I said, don't quote me on this but I'd say it makes sense. |

| No Use For A Name – Justified Black Eye Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
This song means a lot to me because I've had friends get hit by their boyfriends and be too scared to leave them in fear that they'd find them and do something worse. I'm not much of a tough guy and I'd probably be easy to beat in a fight but if I came across one of these fucking cowards I'd hurt them so bad. |

Thank god you people actually know the meaning of the song lol. Yep, it is written in dedication to his father, and it follows Another Day which was written about his father whilst he was dying. 2 amazing songs. |

| Eminem – The Real Slim Shady Lyrics | 20 years ago |

First off, whatever the media is trying to do with Eminem, I don't care. I like the majority of his music, and that's all that counts. Second and lastly, all you cheese warriors pissing and moaning about how you hate Eminem, here's some suggestions: Grow some fucking balls and stop whining If you really hate Eminem, why the fuck are you looking at his lyrics? Learn to type. Just because you're on the internet doesn't give you the excuse to talk like a retard. Get a decent argument. "Eminem iz shit" really doesn't cut it you bunch of under sexed morons. Ted (that's me for all the nimrods) > Every cunt that has come on here so far and expressed their undying hate for Marshall Mathers. I rule. |

| Pantera – Heresy Lyrics | 20 years ago |

No way!!! Pantera = Metal genius' with the best fucking riffs known to man, System of a Down = gay nu metal outfit with a lunatic on vocals. There is no way Dime would need to take a page out of that whiny voiced cunt from SOAD's book when trying to write a riff. Anyways, the song is about Phil's views on racism. In his mind, it only causes a ton of problems and isn't worh the hassle. |
|
| Pantera – Shattered Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Something to do with war or terrorist attacks. "There's no healing, everyone's dying" kinda gives me the impression that it's written about some sort of devastation. | |
| Pantera – Power Metal Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Just a declaration of what they were doing at that time really. Kinda like Metallica did with "Hit The Lights". | |
| Pantera – No Good (Attack The Radical) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
It's not the weakest at all. If I had to choose a weakest from the VDOP album, I'd go for "By Demons Be Driven". But I'm a die hard Pantera fan and I don't like to put down any song. I can honestly say I don't dislike any Pantera songs. Anyways... Yeah, the lyrics are definately about racism. When I first heard it I knew straight away it was a statement about racism. How shitty and fucked up it is. It's really well written and to be honest, probably the best anti-racism song I've ever heard. |

| Black Label Society – In This River Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
This is an amazing song. To the guy that told Zakk to work longer on his shit, what's the point? This song is raw, emotional and straight from the heart. GIving it more production would just suck out the feeling. Well, this song I'd say is about losing someone. Zakk didn't write it for Dime because it was written before his death, but as soon as he listened to it after Dime's death, he knew right away that "In This River" was going to be his tribute to Dimebag. |

| Dream Theater – Another Day Lyrics | 20 years ago |

The song was written by Petrucci when his father was dying of Cancer. Take Away My Pain was written after his Dad had died. That's the story of the song, fact. |
