Sublime – Jailhouse Lyrics 16 years ago
Is someone messing with me. Is the line really, "will be revealed unto bass and sublime?". Pretty sure it should be "will be revealed unto babes and sublime," because it's a ref from the bible. Ssomeone should check that out...

In any case, love this song. and the part about 1983 and how all the girlies wanted to be his wife is priceless.

The Hollies – Bus Stop Lyrics 18 years ago
Mezmerizing. I have never heard someone say they 'employed' their umbrella but the Hollies make rain repellent sound resplendent.

Phish – Scent Of A Mule Lyrics 19 years ago
favorite Phish song. Also the only country song I know with laser beams in it.

Blind Melon – No Rain Lyrics 19 years ago
Can't believe I haven't commented about this song yet. Easily one of my favorite song/videos ever. While the lyrics are depressing, when I hear 'No Rain' the colors "blue, yellow, and green" come into my head and the line that really stands out to me is "stay with me, and I'll have it made". It kind of says a lot.

Disturbed – Stricken Lyrics 19 years ago
Amazing song. I am not a fan of Disturbed but 'Stricken' totally earns my respect. The song comes in like a bloodstained hurricane.

Donovan – Sunshine Superman Lyrics 19 years ago
First real Psychedelic song of note. He should have gotten more publicity from it, but for legal reasons it wasn't released on time. The first lines of this song just hit you like a magic bus.

Pearl Jam – World Wide Suicide Lyrics 19 years ago
While it's catchy, it really doesn't sound like Pearl Jam. I think it's good that bands change, adapt, and evolve like the Beatles, in order to achieve better sound and variety... but I'm not sure this is where Pearl Jam should be traveling. The backup vocals during the chorus are just quirky. I'd hate to see PJ join with U2 and Green Day in the list of igreat bands that have become ipod bubblegum in the 2000's.

Kaiser Chiefs – I Predict a Riot Lyrics 20 years ago
Yeah, good use of Mockney-style Brittish accent. First song I heard by this band and very catchy. Surprised they haven't overthrown Franz Ferdinand yet.

Kaiser Chiefs – Everyday I Love You Less And Less Lyrics 20 years ago
the whole Brit-pop think is a little quirky but as far as it goes, the Kaiser Chiefs are pretty great. The 'my parents love me', 'my girlfriend loves me', 'they keep photos of me' is a very nice touch and no I don't think it's odd for anyone to sing about themselves. Lots of songs are written in the first person.

Weezer – Beverly Hills Lyrics 20 years ago
I think I should qualify my incredibly negative post because it gives the impression I hate the band. It's wierd, I mean, I like Weezer's past work, this just isn't one of their best and I swear the beat is either completely lifted or just really really derivitive and I can't get past that.

Modern English – I Melt with You Lyrics 20 years ago
Just completely excellent. The first few verses blow my mind every time. Bowling For Soup did a terrible, whiney rendition of this song. The orginal is still the best... Now and Forever... I hate Cats (sigh).

David Bowie – Pablo Picasso Lyrics 20 years ago
I heard the lyrics was "jumping off a big log." guess it doesn't matter. Great Bowie performance. The Burning Sensations did an interesting version as well. Different delivery. Anyone who takes a song and makes it their own, should get respect.

The Velvet Underground – Sweet Jane Lyrics 20 years ago
I don't speculate about the meaning. It's about working people to me... and Lou Reeds incredible transcendent lyrics delivered with such gnarlyness. sometimes I admit I just burst out- SWEET JA-YANE!

Sweet – Ballroom Blitz Lyrics 20 years ago
Terrific glam-rock-esque song. I blast it when it's on me' radio.

The Hollies – Stop Stop Stop Lyrics 20 years ago
Great little song with a dynamic beat and flowing lyrics, ironicly named 'stop, stop, stop' considering how the band unstoppably charges into a frenzy with each line making the few well placed pauses extra effective.

The Hollies – Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress Lyrics 20 years ago
Terrific song. The way Allan Clarke's voice trails off at the end of most lines give it such a distinct mood. They say they were imitating CCR, but this song sticks out in my mind as being unique and completely ground breaking.

Weezer – Beverly Hills Lyrics 20 years ago
what does this song mean to me? it means that Steve Miller must be a real nice guy to not sue the pants off the band. I hope it was an accident because it isn't hard to hear the similarities in between The Joker by the Steve Miller Band and Beverly Hills by Weezer.

Avenged Sevenfold – Beast and the Harlot Lyrics 20 years ago
yeah, the lyrics are right out of Revelation chapter 17. as for the meaning- the way I been taught is that the wild beast with the seven heads symbolizes the world powers and governments, and that the harlot is false religion. prophetically, that would mean that toward the end of the days we're living in, government will turn against religion and destroy all except whichever one is true. intense stuff.

Strawberry Alarm Clock – Incense and Peppermints Lyrics 20 years ago
then again, I could be totally wrong. which is the point of the song.

who cares what games we choose
with little to win and nothing to lose

Strawberry Alarm Clock – Incense and Peppermints Lyrics 20 years ago
It's about everyone getting along and not fighting about who's side or opinion is right. 'incense and peppermints, meaingless nouns' is an expression to drive home the point that arguing is pointless. other lines like 'take a look at yourself' 'beatniks and politics, nothing is new' 'one point of few' 'occassions persuasions clutter your mind' etc. seem to support this.

The Maybridge Falls – Purple Skies Lyrics 20 years ago
The song is generally listenable, however, the lyrics of the second verse resemble Doctor Seuss rather than free form or prose. Just an observation.

Neutral Milk Hotel – Two-Headed Boy Lyrics 20 years ago
Because a lot of Neutral Milk Hotel songs make reference to the Holocaust, I interpreted it to be about the experiments that the Nazis conducted on innocent people. All the mention of a two headed boy in a jar and later of how people were sticking fingers in his spine, I took to be about the experiments. In addition, the line about them taking off their clothes could be sexual but then again, before being gassed or experimented on, they were forced to take off their clothing and belongings. That's what I got from it.
