We have 46 chromosomes, or "44 and 2". There are people with "43 and 2", for example, which I believe is Down's Syndrome, and there are people with "44 and 3", as mentioned on p.5. But, there is no human with "46 and 2" chromosomes. HOWEVER, THAT'S NOT THE POINT. This entire theory, as I studied carefully a long while back, has been disproved and denounced. The point is that for us, as humans, to grow, we need to accept the parts of ourselves we think of as ugly and instead of trying to cover them up, we need to actually do something about them. Let's say a kid's got awful acne. Now let's say this kid, instead of getting Pro-Active or whatever, uses makeup every day to cover up his zits. For this kid to "evolve" or move past his problem, he needs to take the makeup off so he can put some Pro-Active on. Or, it could be that he's saying for humanity to work as one consciousness, we need get rid of our fears of dying, killing, crying, etc., because we cant work as one if one refuses to do what another needs done. If the hand was afraid to take or to give, it couldn't take food to give to the mouth. |

| Tool – Intermission Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
It's the intro riff to Jimmy done with piano. I like to think of this song as being "before 11". (Read the lyrics to Jimmy and you'll know what I'm talking about.) Intermission is Jimmy skipping along the sidewalk without a care in the world, then suddenly he looks up and sees something unfamiliar. (Cue Jimmy to start) "What was it like to look at the face of your own instability (adulthood) then suddenly look away (Intermission is a separate track from Jimmy; you're listening to Intermission then you "look away" to Jimmy), leaving you with the dead and hopeless (the dead and hopeless being James "after 11". If you made any sense out of this, PLEASE let me know. If I could just explain it it would, but I think I complicated it beyond all hope. |

| Avenged Sevenfold – Seize The Day Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
It sounds to me like this song should go immediately before M.I.A.; in Sieze the Day he's scared he'll never see her again and in M.I.A. he says "Even if we won, still we lose; until I make it home to you." Makes sense to me. LettertoElise: Wow. "It all has to end someday when one of them dies." I've honestly never thought about that before. |

(Above post was in response to p.1, just read p.2) Bella x: I'm pretty sure you can "shoot" with a bow and arrow. Langeslayer: Yeah, I get an image of one of those hound dogs from Looney Tunes singing every time I hear that part. Anything other than what they did there would've been great. And qwertyu: That line sounded like, "Shout, 'there's blood on my hands'; shout all I can" to me. But, whatever. |

I don't think it matters what war this is about. It could relate to almost any war, and there's no way to tell what they had in mind without asking them. And even then you don't really know. So why are you arguing your own opinion when that's all it'll ever be? The point is that things like mothers dying infront of their sons and men killing other men for fun happen "in the name of God and country". And that's bad. |

| Chester Bennington – Let Down Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I think this song definately shows the variety Chester can perform, vocally, but I like him more on songs like One Step Closer and Hit the Floor. What is this song from, anyway? Isn't Chester releasing his own album? And when the hell is that coming out?! | |
| Linkin Park – Riff Raff Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Anybody who thinks Chester sucks needs to listen to the so-called "Tribute" to Linkin Park. Or, just listen to anybody try to sing a Linkin Park song. Chester is one of the best rock vocalists around and has more control over his voice than most anyone; how many people can sing all the way from the reflective vocals and lyrics of "My December" to the angry "One Step Closer" and still sound awesome? | |
| System of a Down – Soldier Side Lyrics | 20 years ago |

To all the people discussing how religion relates to this song, I have two things to throw in just to show you that it isn't as simple as you seem to think. 1. The Bible does NOT say if you commit suicide you are damned to Hell. Most likely, a person who would commit suicide is not "saved", but if they are they still will not go to Hell. (If that seems unfair to you, think about all the different reasons a person could commit suicide) 2. The Bible, especially the Old Testament, makes a clear distinction between killing and murder. For example, it clearly states that killers and witches should be stoned to death. Are the people who take the job murderers in God's eyes? If so, then someone would have to stone them, then the person who stoned that person.. you get the idea. |

| Tool – Disgustipated Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I think I heard one explanation somewhere that... here goes.. Love is just a facade that we use to accomplish something real (reproduction, continuation of the human race..) And that the Bible says that God is Love. Therefore God is a facade developed to accomplish something real (realization of our unity, continuation of our evolution). This was also related to the book, "Dune" and the Bene Gesserit's development of a selective breeding program. (By the way, I believe the relation to Dune is the only relation this explanation has to Disgustipated. Meh) The Bene Gesserit basically got rid of any idea of love for their breeding program, which was intended to create the Kwisatz Haderach, who is the next step in human evolution. Not sure if this explanation was saying we need to throw away the concept of God for our continued evolution (as the Bene Gesserit did in Dune) or if it was relating the "middle men" that Maynard is against to the Bene Gesserit; people who appear to love but are really only pretending so they can achieve their goal of the Kwisatz Haderach, and the middle men pretend to believe in God but are really only pretending so they can achieve their goal of control. Now that I think about it, this might've been an explanation about why Tool included Dune on their reading list. Anyway, this just kindof came to mind.. so, what do you guys think? |

| Tool – Lateralus Lyrics | 20 years ago |

[[ Sorry my first post has to be a double-post, but this is crucial to my explanation ]] "let's me see There is so much more and beckons me to look through to these infinite possibilities" Seeing these other philosophies lets him see there is so much more than the religions he grew up in (blacks and whites, with their philosophies, are all he saw in his infancy). And seeing that there is more out there beckons him to look through these philosophies; and in the next line he is acknowledging that they are "infinite" and that they are all "possible". |

Before hearing Maynard's explanation that the "Black, then White are, All I see, In my infancy, Red and yellow then came to be" lyrics, my first impression was that they represented the races. Or, to be more specific, the philosophies of the races he has seen as he continues his search to "see". "Black then White are all I see in my Infancy" Say, Black represents Christianity (not trying to stereotype here, just trying to give you an idea of what I mean - I happen to be a white Christian btw) and White represents Scientology. (L. Ron Hubbard) but then... "Red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me, lets me see" Many of Tool's songs are based on Eastern religion (Asians are called "Yellow") , and also Red represents Indians (Indian philosophy of creation happens to be the said interpretation of these colors by Maynard). It was my first impression that he was saying these philosophies have reached out to him, letting him see. Probably not Maynard's intention, but I'm just wondering what you guys think about this. |
