When I saw nightwish live it was very funny when they did this song. After they finished the previous song they all walked off the stage and this ocean-crashing noise started playing and everyone started screaming because they knew what was coming, and then these roadies came out with stools stuff, and when they finally came out they all came out one at a time and such..... playing until finally they were all out (They came out when it was thier part to start playing....) and when they finished Marco said, "And now for something completely different!" and they played Poet and The Pendulum. it was awesome. Anette was crying though, I couldn't figure out why. But yeah, Marco wrote and composed this song. Toumus helped him once he had a basic structure and stuff, but It was mostly Marco. I'm excited to see a different style and perspective represented so well by Nightwish. It shows how awesome thier range is. |

I really don't believe that this song is about Tarja. I'm a bit wary to believe it is about Toumus either, even though it includes his name. It certainly has the potential to have been about Toumus, but he is such an amazing songwriter, it's clear his words speak to many through this song. It's very cinematic, the epitome of epic.... It's a wonderful song create to inspire and let us play it in our minds with it's very vivid imagery. I think It's sort of a story of life... but told in reverse to show that it's not the destination, but the journey. ("The End" at the beginning of the song while "The Biggining" whispers quietly in the end) betrayal, lust, anger, apathy, shame, grief, fear, peace, anger, vengance, new beginnings, death, love, regret, and consequences....... |

I think it's about an aristocrat who is forced suddenly into war and the ugliness of the world. He sees life how it really is and faintly remembers the life he used to live and longs for it. Maybe I've just over analyzed it. I've been thinking about it a lot. |

:) Elders understand what is really important in life. The material possestions aren't going to make you happy. That finding the fire... ...and fire as the driving force for all things. Destruction breeds creation. So they not only want to find passion, but new ideas to fuel that "fire" I also think that the old woman is kneelign in prayer, trying to find life within religon. And the old man is troubled deeply.. like after being troubled you can not sleep.. and he is going to end up in that place. ................heh. |

I don't think that this has anything to do with family. I think alex is a boy struggling to escape his past. He's making decitions of his own now, weather they are good or bad doesn't matter because they are his decitions. He wants to leave everything behind and never return, he wants to dance and make everyone happy. He wants to succed but finds himself failing time after time. I think it's sortof his own mental conversation as opposed to one on him. It's him encouraging himself to escape what he used to be. but that's just me. |
