| My Chemical Romance – I'm Not Okay (I Promise) Lyrics

Oh my god, this song is so emotional, and it reminds me of the summer of 1982, back when Dire Straits was big, and I had this group of really good friends, and one of my friends used to pay me to have sex with his girlfriend while he took pictures. Things have changed so much since then, and the girl is like 45, and lives in a trailer park now. And my friend's in prison for soliciting prostitution and selling meth. I go and visit him sometimes and smuggle in porno magazines. Sometimes, it hurts thinking about that beautiful relationship, but then when I go and find the pictures on the internet, the girl was actaully pretty ugly, so I get over it pretty quickly. |

Oh, and to the person above that lives in Calgary, yeah, I'm sure he wrote this song just for you (moron). What the hell is there to see in Calgary anyway? It's just a random city whose name happened to rhyme with "see". |

Dude, don't kill yourself over a woman! It's not worth it! Move on and find somebody else after she dies. Why are you worried about your woman dying anyway? Aren't you like only 30? And if your girlfriend is a nun, as the song suggests, you're probably going to hell anyway, so try to stay alive as long as possible. |

This is why you should always clean out your glove compartment once every couple of months. I once forgot to do that, and there was this old candy bar that someone had left in there, and I thought it was a turd when I reached into the glove compartment! I couldn't sleep for a week. All this guy found was a few pictures, so get over it! You don't know what real trauma is! I can't even eat a Snicker's anymore. |

| Death Cab for Cutie – Soul Meets Body Lyrics

I like the part about the cool and clear water making you feel new. I'm wondering if maybe the songwriter is describing an enema? There's a lot of feces-related lyrics in this song, including the part about filthy hands being washed and not one speck (of poop, presumably) remaining. When you're constipated for a long time and you're finally able to void your bowels, it truly feels like your soul meeting your body. |

I was wondering what is meant by the "light brown streaks" referred to in the song. Is the songwriter referring to this woman's underwear? If so, perhaps there is a level of perversion here that nobody is quite getting. Maybe the emptiness and guilt the songwriter feels is from his inability to connect with the woman outside of sniffing her underwear. Just a thought. |

I think this song is about feeling guilty after masturbating. Obviously, the songwriter had a very puritanical upbringing. But he shouldn't feel so bad about it, because masturbation is normal and healthy, and it helps you get to know your body. |

Upon reflection, I believe my comments may have been too harsh. I'd like to apologize to any right wing Republican pricks out there who still think Bush knows his ass from his elbow. I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone with my comments, so please accept my sincerest apologies. |

This song is so gay they should have Barbara Streisand join them onstage at their concerts to sing it. This is another example of the gays forcing their lifestyle choices on the rest of us. Why don't they just sing, "Come and f*** me up the ass, Michael," and forget about all the innuendo. I'm going to e-mail Bill O'Reilly and Rick Santorum about this one. |

Clearly the song IS about President Bush as are all of Franz Ferdinand's songs, except for "Michael," which is about J. Edgar Hoover, and "Walk Away" which is about losing a pet monkey. Anyone who can't see that is blind, deaf, and dumb, just like President Bush. |

| Iron & Wine – The Trapeze Swinger Lyrics
| 20 years ago

I have a slightly different take from rocketiza. It's actually the girl who is tellling him that the trapeze act was never meant to last, not vice versa. I do not interpret the trapeze act to necessarily be a metaphor for life. The trapeze act could also be a metaphor for lifelong love, which is a type of balancing act (see a similar metaphor in "Such Great Heights" covered by Sam Beam). Because the girl is telling him that the trapeze act was never meant to last, I see it as a premature end to their love prior to death. I don't necessarily think the narrator is dying, but rather contemplating his death and how he will look back on the love of his life. I would specifically refer to the stanza beforehand about "my misery and how it lost me all I wanted". This suggests to me a loss caused by mistakes the narrator made in life. Further, the narrator mentions a "fleeting chance" to see the trapeze act earlier in the song, which does not suggest to me a love that ends at death. This seems to me to be a lost love that occurred during life, and the narrator is looking back at its importance as he contemplates his eventual death. Rocketiza may be right, but this is just my interpretation. |

Well, clearly the song's not about a damn eagle, or else it would be called "Fly Away". Birds don't have any personality, anyway. My monkey loved me (and sometimes loved himself as well). |

| Ryan Adams – This House Is Not for Sale Lyrics
| 20 years ago

This is a song written to an overzealous real estate agent. The real estate agent wants so bad to get the listing that he's even moving out the homeowner's furniture before the house is even sold. Ryan Adams is trying to tell the real estate agent to calm the hell down because he's not ready to sell yet. I don't understand the line "you signed the lease". Perhaps the owner of the house simply wants to rent it out instead of selling it. I don't like this song very much because I really can't get emotionally invested in a song about real estate issues set to music. |

| The White Stripes – Girl, You Have No Faith in Medicine Lyrics

This was a jingle written to sell Alieve. Jack, the seller, is talking to girl, who is the consumer, about the benefits of acetaminophen. There is a disclaimer about a possible allergic reaction to actetaminphen in the song (this is very rare and was not found over the course of studies on several random groupings). The FDA needs to require that possible side effects of the medication, including headache, dry mouth, and sexual dysfunction, be included at the end of the song. |

Who the hell is Bobby? If he is this girl's boyfriend, and he thinks it's ok for her to get with Jack White, then it seems that a menage a trois would be in order. I think there's some underlying sexual feelings towards Bobby in the song. Also, how can the person writing the song have a left brain? That suggests that he has more than one brain. Isn't that, like, what cows have? |

| Def Leppard – Love Bites Lyrics

This song has many layers. I am particularly intrigued by the lyrics: "I know you think that love is the way you make it So I don't wanna be there when you decide to break it." I am not sure as to what the artist is trying to say with these lines. What exactly is being broken? Love? How can you break love? Also, what exactly does the artist mean by love being "the way you make it." Is he saying that love is how you make a living? Perhaps this song is addressed to a prostitute. Further, do the words "love bites" refer to an actual physical problem, or does this mean that love is simply difficult. If it is a physical problem, they can give you a special shampoo for your pubic area that will take care of whatever is living down there and thus prevent further bites. |

This song is about being unable to obtain good blow. If he had used even halfway adequate cocaine, then it would obviously be a one-way ticket to heaven. I hate to see drugs disparaged this way just because someone doens't have access to higher quality cocaine. |

I agree with wee_chloe that this is a political song. It's meant to be addressed to President Bush, and is blaming him for why Franz Ferdinand is leaving the United States. You can tell it's President Bush he's addressing by the lines "you're so awkward just like me" which refers to President Bush's speaking style, and also by the line "as we ride along under an optimistic sun" which refers to President Bush's failure to acknowledge that Iraq has turned into a debacle. The 'granite wall' referred to in the first line is the Vietnam War Memorial. I don't know if President Bush has skinny hands, but I think he must based on the song lyrics. |

As a member of the American Family Values Coalition, I am announcing that we are instituting a boycott against Franz Ferdinand until all content relating to "gay sex" is removed from their music. We would be satisfied with Michael being changed to Michelle and the word boy to girl each time it appears. Of course, all copies of the original unaltered CD would have to be burned. |
