I think that maybe this song has something to do with Mildred Fish-Harnack, who was an American writer from Wisconsin who taught English in Berlin during World War II. Along with her husband, Arvid, and others, she became a founder of the 'Red Orchestra' - which was a Hitler resistance group. The group was arrested and hanged - except Fish-Harnack, who had a retrial and who was eventually led to a red brick building that housed a guillotine, where she was beheaded. Incidentally, while in Germany, she wrote a memoir of her days in Madison, entitled 'The Moon and the Saxophone'. |
