This song really does have an amazing back story. It concerns Brett's aunt. Brett said: "I was pretty young at the time. She had this lover and he was black and Hayward's Heath is a small town and in the early '80s I guess it was very taboo. And basically they committed joint suicide together. They drove a car into a garage and just turned the exhaust on and killed themselves." |

This song was written in one sitting over Brett's lunch. He was working in community centre in Highgate. It was inspired by mothers who would, according to Brett, "trundle in with their handicapped kids, and their mascara would be running because they'd spent the whole morning crying, and the only escape they had was to get a load of Valium down them." |

It's about a friend of Brett's who was suffering from extreme depression. Sadly he committed suicide in 1996. Brett also wrote two other songs about him - "He's Gone" and "Simon", Both were written after Brett's friend's suicide. All truly beautiful songs. |
