40 Below Summer – Endorphins Lyrics 17 years ago
I can't help but hear a double meaning. The obvious - endorphines - enhanced by 'chemicals' induced into the body. Natural pain killers assisted by the presence of numbing drugs. Flowing through you. Making everything easier. It's so easy to get used to that.

The other - eh - a long shot - but maybe the endorphines are metaphorical for a girl and how she makes Max feel.

-40 forever, B!

People In Planes – If You Talk Too Much (My Head Will Explode) Lyrics 17 years ago
Basically, he's saying if it's really over then just let it be over. He doesn't give a fuck about talking about things, he just wants closure and freedom. Apparently she wasn't there when she should've been, and now it's too little too late.

Metallica – Low Man's Lyric Lyrics 17 years ago
I always wonder what James' "trash fire" was when he wrote this song. Just the random, rock star bullshit he's covered up his alcoholism with? Something to help forget the past? Yet not enough.

Collective Soul – The World I Know Lyrics 18 years ago
This song portrays a feeling, emotion, and moment that you really just have to experience to fully understand.

UPO – Godless Lyrics 18 years ago
I'd say the guy is admitting he needs something. I'm kinda there myself. Perhaps he's been without faith in a higher power and is suddenly realizing that life's bland without believing in something. He's having problems. Life's getting him down. He hurts. And he's singing about all of that. Just because the song says 'god' doesn't necessarily mean JUST God, though. Maybe he needs a purpose and direction.

Counting Crows – Hanginaround Lyrics 18 years ago
This song makes me feel small. Like...tiny. I grew up in a small town and I'm still pissing life away searching for myself and what I'm supposed to be doing with my days. I think the song's about having big dreams and not going after them for fear of surendering the fun times, friends, and memories you'll leave behind.

40 Below Summer – Rope Lyrics 18 years ago
Personally, I don't think it necessarily has to be suicidal. You especially can't say that just based on the title.

In being at the end of his rope, Max has exausted all efforts in whatever situation he was facing. It's not so much him saying "I want to kill myelf and kill you" as much as it is him saying he doesn't know what to do. He's spent. He's tired. He's broken and blinded. Everything's unraveled.

Hurt – House Carpenter Lyrics 18 years ago
I'm pretty sure you're right. I just saw the band live a couple of hours ago, and the vocalist simply said "This is by far the hardest song for me to sing for you..." and the song started. It became real clear just a few seconds into it what he was singing about. The Lord is the house carpenter. The love will never be his (again), because she's dead. Real moving performance. You could hear how personal the lyrics were.

How can you not get this?

Hey, old man
When I'm going six feet down
You gotta make that promise to me
A stained glass cross hanging over me

Cold – Wasted Years Lyrics 18 years ago
The thing about Scooter's words is that they're all so true and heart felt. Yeah, we all relate. It's hard not to in some way. But the emotion in his melodies isn't fabricated. Read this...

Scooter: "Wasted Years" is pretty much. I've had a lot of problems with alcohol and drugs at times in my life. I was ashamed of myself at points. I've always been the guy who knows that he has problems. Nobody ever had to tell me, "Man, I think you've got a problem." I would wake up the next morning and say, "Man, I've got a fuckin' problem!" I know that I was fucked up. I always tried to fix myself but I'd always fall back sooner or later and go right back to the same bullshit that I was doing before. I feel like I've wasted so much time in my life by doing that. It's amazing because I'll probably still fall back again. I think that's actually part of who I am so I don't know if I care if I do. Hopefully, one day I'll be better but I don't know. It's really about my personal life and just how I feel about me. "Betraying life was the life I betrayed with the shape that I'm in." It's hard. It's not easy to win. I think that maybe things would have been better if I would have been more focused and sober and blah, blah, blah but... that didn't happen. What's the condition I'm in now because of what I've done?

Shoutweb: Do you have any regrets?

Scooter: The regrets that I have are people that I may have hurt in the period of time that it was happening. That's probably it. The people that I probably have affected throughout that time.

Cold – Stupid Girl Lyrics 18 years ago
Here's your meaning.

Shoutweb: "Stupid Girl" is more of a lighter theme.

Scooter: "Stupid Girl" was a chance for me to breathe kind of. I was like, "Rivers, thank you!" I don't have to fuckin' cry or think about the dark side of everything on this song. When he sent me those lyrics, the second verse still sounds like a Cold verse to me and the chorus definitely does so it's still Cold in a lot of ways. I detach myself from it because he did the verses so it definitely means something to me but not as much as the other ones. I don't know what his version of "Stupid Girl" is but I think I have a version. My version of it and what I see through it is that you could just be a total piece of trash and at the same time, you don't know that you are. You have this person that's going to leave you and you don't have any idea why. A lot of people are blind to the fact that they are idiots.

Shoutweb: (laughter) Funny.

Scooter: (laughter) You know? I don't know. It's going to be funny because I'm sure a lot of people are going to hear the "Stupid Girl" hook and say, "Hey, it's about a stupid girl." But not really. It's about a stupid man, that doesn't know he's stupid.

Evans Blue – The Promise and the Threat Lyrics 18 years ago
I guess you've had to have heard that exact line "is that a promise, or a threat?" to really get this song. It's got the spirit and the feel of that deciding moment when two people finally call it quits. I can picture a lot of tears, raised voices, and regretted words. She says it's over and she's leaving, and he's calling her out, asking if she's trying to scare him...it's not working. "is that a promise, or a threat?"

Evans Blue – Over Lyrics 18 years ago
To me, the song is about an ending. A bittersweet one at that. I can see where Lateralus gets his view from, but I disagree. There wasn't any rush here. It just wasn't what was expected. He's been walking blindly - by his own will - into a relationship. He knows what's going on. He knows it's troubled. He knows it can never be fixed, and so does she...but neither want to admit it. This is him finally facing the truth. Turns out, it wasn't love. It wasn't special. It was just the same old fake relationship between two people who are always looking for something more.

Crossfade – Colors Lyrics 18 years ago
Someone walked into the wrong light. He's just reminding them there's always something better. That while the world may not yet know what this person's best "colors" are, he's certain these aren't them...he wants the best for them. Friends like that are hard to come by. Most just bail when you reach hard times.

Nothingface – Piss & Vinegar Lyrics 18 years ago
I see love from Angels
I saw no love in the past
I thought you made us perfect
I guess you're laughing last
Some legends uproot evil
Some made of silver & gold
But why is brimestone worthless
When we're all so cold

I think tht pretty much sums things up. Maybe god wasn't there when he was needed. And so Matt's left feeling empty, alone, and cold...asking why is brimestone (Hell) such a bad thing. At least it fills the hole god left in him. I guess everyone has something to keep them warm at night.

Nothingface – Filthy Lyrics 18 years ago
I think it is about someone WAS being used...or at least lied to and played the fool. He's asking "Where's your head at?" "why would you do this?" and of course "do you want this pain inside? (this isn't going away...maybe you should.) I actually think it's calm, cool, and collective way to bring up some really big points in that situation...heh...at least that's how it reads to me.

Dry Kill Logic – ASSFAULT Lyrics 18 years ago
wow. Anyways...back to the song.

It may very well be about revenge. I just picture Cliff standing before someone that once meant a lot to him and saying "I told you so." LIke, "You could've been so much more, but look where your decisions got you." He knows he lost someone special, and has already started accepting that. Now he wants them to face their own f-ups.

Just another man's interpretation.

Dry Kill Logic – GOODNIGHT Lyrics 18 years ago
"Ive been listening to DKL for a lil over a year now and this song still gets me everytime.
I think its not only about a relationship but also a lot about just knowing that everything has a time and place. And that knowing that is one of the greatest lessons. "

I didn't know how to put it into my own words, but I wanted to put empasis on the same thing, Brillo_pad.

As I Lay Dying – Elegy Lyrics 18 years ago
Had the pleasure of seeing the band live here in Pensacola a while back. A small, cramped room, but it was possibly one of the best shows I've seen.

Anyways. After that show I had a brief obbession and read somewhere (pretty sure the actual As I Lay Dying website then) that it's infact written about a friend of the vocalist. I wanna say I remember reading she committed suicide, but I wouldn't bet money on it.

For anyone who might try to post some gay bullshit about relationships: just look up the word Elegy in the dictionary. It'll all make sense after that.
