I think this song is about the violent images the character in the TDS starts to play in his mind. The character is getting worse by every song but its not till the downward spiral where he actually does something real i.e - shoots someone. The song is probably the most violent souding on the album - a true NIN classic - and yes I agree with everyone else it is also about non-conformity and stuff |

Vasoline is used as a metaphor in this song. Vasoline is used in the song to explain something that is used for its healing purposes but still doesn't fix the job - think about it "covered in hope and vasoline but still cannot fix this broken machine". Yes its that simple, it really isn't about gay sex or masturbation.

Alot of people are missing the point when it comes to NIN. Trent has moved on from the downward spiral psycho lyrics he used to write. He writes more about what is happening in his world, and thats kinda what makes his shit real. Does anyone know he is suing his ex manager and long term friend John Malm? That must really suck - when I heard "with teeth" that sort of frustration was very evident. I think he is also trying to tell us that the whole rock star lifestyle isn't what its cracked up to be. You're in the limelight one minute and then before you know it you're fading away into the distance - getting smaller. |

This song is about respect or more or less the lack of respect and sincerity in humankind.
Even though it does have a simple guitar riff, so fuckin what?
Would you rather listen to korn or limp bizkit?
I'd rather listen to an artist who can dig beneath the surface. Not many artists have the ability to do that and its sad when you buy a rock albumthat has sold millions of copies and really its just plain tryhard thoughtless crap (nu metal that is) |
