Something that also should be considered is that the song could be describing the temptations of fame that goes with being a rock star. Waking up next to the girl he's never seen, golden ships, etc. The intersection could be when the band reaches a certain amount of fame where they are making money and those things are available, do they follow that path or stay true to their Christian beliefs? In the end, he decides that just because he has the money and could live that kind of life, it wouldn't make him happy. That's another but not the only interpretation. |

I can't believe there are 68 comments on this song and maybe two people talk about what the song actually means. The site is called songmeanings.net, not whyIlovetheband.com. Who cares if your girlfriend likes the song or how much the band rox? Talk about what the song means! |

I don't think that she's moving away, per se. What I immediately though of was they were high school sweethearts and she went off to college to pursue her dreams, and he didn't, and now he's wondering whatever happened to her. That's what I get out of that part about you were gonna be a doctor, movie star... etc. She had a lot of big dreams and for whatever reason he couldn't be a part of them. |

Saint Augustine was a huge sinner for the first half of his life, and then he realized his life lacked meaning and became a Christian and then one of the most influential Christian thinkers. I can't say for sure that he was 31 when he converted, but it would make sense. |

It's too bad no one on this board actually wants to talk about the song. It seems to me to be about reincarnation, where he's wondering what languages the baby dreams in and if he dreams of "Del Shannon's Runaway playing on transistor radio waves." It seems like the idea is that his son is a reincarnated soul and he'll forget his past lives as he ages. |
