Queen – My Fairy King Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song deals with the loss of innocence as we grow up, when everything we believe in seems to vanish into thin air and we are left forsaken in the adult world.

U2 – Dirty Day Lyrics 19 years ago
The meaning of this song is pretty clear to me. It's obviously about a father who abandoned his child, hence the lines..."You can't even remember what I'm trying to forget" and..."there's no blood thicker than ink" I personally dislike that attitude. It's like this guy's washing his hands of the whole thing, just like Pilate. And I don't think it's about Bono's father. I understand they didn't have the best relationship, but he never abandoned him, did he?

U2 – Stay (Faraway, So Close!) Lyrics 19 years ago
Yeah...'City of Angels' is shit, but this song was written for Win Wenders' FARAWAY SO CLOSE! a follow-up to his masterpiece 'Wings of Desire'. Thus STAY is sung from an angel's perspective...an awesome song for an awesome movie.

U2 – The First Time Lyrics 19 years ago
This song reminds me of 'The Teacher of Wisdom', a beautiful prose poem by Oscar Wilde. I don't think they were inspired by it when they wrote the song, but it's another way of putting it. Really, it makes sense...if you think deeply about it.

U2 – Yahweh Lyrics 19 years ago
As far as I know, YAHWEH is not the God of Christianity but the God of Judaism. Now don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to say that there are several gods. I'm just pointing out that if that particular name was used here it's because the message was intended for the Jews, obviously alluding to the long-standing conflicts in the Middle East.
I also think it wasn't Bono's intention to take the Name of the Lord (YAHWEH) in vain. I think he was only trying to describe Him as a loving father you can turn to without any fear, rather than a god of war.

Queen – Teo Torriatte (Let Us Cling Together) Lyrics 20 years ago
This song never fails to bring a tear to my eye. As to its meaning, it's pretty clear to me. This is a letter from a dying person to a loved one (partner, parent, child, etc.) telling them to be strong and to always remember that not even death could make their mutual love disappear. I also think there are some hints pointing at an afterlife or some sort of reincarnation/rebirth. For example when he says "Let us never lose the lessons we have learned" I think he's referring to karma He's saying that if they never forget the lessons they learn throughout each of their lives they will continue to grow spiritually and will certainly reunite with each other in a future incarnation.
It makes perfect sense to me. What do you think?

Queen – The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke Lyrics 20 years ago
The words in this song are a literal description of a scene on a painting by Richard Dadd. In my view there's something else behind. I think Freedie is in a way depicting, or even mocking, some ritual held by the members of a secret order, only that these fellows are not people but fairies.
"The fairy folk have gathered 'round the new moon shine
To see the feller crack a nut at night's noon time..."
TO CRACK A NUT....What's the fuss about it???
Yeah....he's definitely mocking all these supersecretive societies whose members are said to be the guardians of an ancient secret that if disclosed it may change the fate of humanity, etc. They may be right. Who knows?
Anyway...I just happen to like fairies...so...whatever this song is about, I love it! And Freddie writes and sings perfectly.

Queen – The Prophet's Song Lyrics 20 years ago
What an amazingly beautiful song! They say Brian once said he had written this song out of a dream he had. That might be true. Still I think it's pretty obvious that the story is based on the biblical account of the Flood. The "Prophet" is obviously Noah. The reference is clear:
Beware the storm that gathers here", "And two by two my human zoo they'll be running for to come...out of the rain", "Fly and find the new green bough and return like the white dove", etc.
The interesting point here is that the events are seen through the eyes of someone who is there at that place and time, and he is not sure whether to believe the warning or not. The story is written in such a way that it can be apllicable to various different situations. The Flood can be a symbol for destruction and renewal. You have to leave a lot of things behind before you can start a new life.
They say Brian wouldn't write a religious song. As I view it, this is not a religious song but a spiritual one. It seems to me this is exactly the way he feels about the spiritual world. For one part, he wants to believe (not to say he ACTUALLY BELIEVES) there's more to life that the eye can meet, that there is a purpose to life, a plan for the humankind, etc. but there's always that prevailing feeling of doubt. Hence the lines:
"Listen to the mad man!" (that's what people say)
BUT STILL I FEAR AND STILL I DARE NOT LAUGHT AT THE MAD MAN" (the way HE PERSONALLY feels).
To me this isn't the kind of song that is intended to "teach you a lesson", rather is one that makes you think and face your own doubts and fears.
Although most of the song conveys a sense of doom, the last words of the prophet are very hopeful and encouraging:
"God gave you grace to purge this place
And peace all around may be your fortune."
This track can be beautifully paired wih U2's Beautiful Day which, in my opinion, deals with the same topic of change, destruction and renewal:
"See the bird with a leaf in her mouth
After the flood all the colours came out"

The Prophet's Song is definitely a masterpiece and one of the most underrated songs by Queen.
Please excuse my mistakes. I'm a Spanish speaker.

Air Supply – Goodbye Lyrics 20 years ago
I've always thought this song is about a man confessing to his wife/girlfriend that he's gay.
Does it make any sense?
