just saw them tonight in cincinnati. It's a pretty self explanitory song. they are tying to get u to let go of everything. Don't thinkbuot yourself, u will die eventually but while u are here: make the most of it.....very eloquent words, my explanation doesn't do it justice.. If u are ever at their concert and they play this song for u then just let go oh o oh o oh!!! |

I would like to think that I am correct in my interpretation of this song. I would like to think that the meaning is very blatant. When Mick says: "Pleased to meet you, hope you guess my name. But what's puzzling you is the nature of my game." The meaning and answer to the song is all contained in that one line. I haven't read anyone's comment that actually has tried to guess his name. Maybe you are just confused by the nauture of his game.............I'm not being a smug asshole but i do know what his name is and I don't want to share it because that is for you to ponder for yourselves.

oh yeah, one more thing.........pay attention to when they say "oh my sweet darling happiness, you've been away from me all along."..........they are making happiness to be a person in this song, that is how i know that when they say "you" they are refering to happiness. ok, now that i have said that, please listen to the song and you will realize it........of course first inmpressions will lead you to believe that this is about a girl, it is supposed to...... Alkaline Trio's music and lyrics are a lot deeper than you would believe. They make it hard to listen to anything else. |

While a lot of Alkaine Trio's song can mean loss of love or seen to be about a girl(which that is all that mattters if that is what you see it as, the music is for you), this one is not. When the song uses the word "you" (as in "you came to me like a dream") they are refering to happiness. Happiness came to him like a dream, but then it faded to leave him depressed. happiness has a very ephemeral nature, that is what the trio is capturing with this song
"my heart bleeds for what you never did" translation-my heart bleeds for what happiness never did for me"
at the end of the song they say: "my heart bleeds for what you never did UNTIL NOW". --- this again expresses the short lived nature of happiness. He is happy now, but not forever. Die young and save yourselves kids :) |
