| Sufjan Stevens – The Tallest Man, the Broadest Shoulders (Part 1: The Great Frontier; Part 2: Come to Me Only with Playthings Now) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
i'd call this song in 5/4 alternating with 6/4 (or two measures of 3/4) just because the 5/4 is subdivided in a very 5/4 way: 3/3/2/2 (eighth notes) anyway, it's very catchy. i love the piano in the background, that's a very catchy riff. |

I agree with supersarahbeth. Except that I think that the leaving the new girl is important, and realizing that the old one was better. I guess it's about a guy with an ex-girlfriend that didn't work, and now he's over her, he's ready to move back on to his older girlfriend. "And I twisted it wrong just to make it right Had to leave myself behind And I've been flying high all night So come pick me up I've landed" So he explained away the problems in the relationship and ended up having to change himself, but now he's better: "Come pick me up, I've landed"... it sounds like he's pleading to someone specific that now that he's done with her, he can move on. "Down comes the reign of the telephone czar It's ok to call I will answer for myself" He wants his older girlfriend back. |

| Death Cab for Cutie – Your Heart Is an Empty Room Lyrics | 19 years ago |

this verse is very wrong. it's actually: home space how it ages when your away and spring blooms when you find the love thats true but you don't know *WHAT NOW TO DO* cause *THE CHASE IS* all you know and *SHE* stopped running months ago |

| Elliott Smith – King's Crossing Lyrics | 19 years ago |

these lyrics need some fixing. it's actually: ...watch the SHELVES... ...stand and deliver, DUCK instead... ...keeps A fat man feeding... and for some reason, instead of "read the part and we turn out fine it's a hell of a role if you can keep it alive" i hear "read the part, return at five it's a hell hole if you can keep it alive" |

how about the anti-Christians believe it's about it's about rejection and the Christians believe it's about Christ? would that be too taxing? |

in my mediocre, probably biased opinion, this song is one of the best musical representations of love out there... and it doesn't mention one thing about love. my favorite DCFC song. |

| Elliott Smith – Say Yes Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
"It's about a guy who's fucked up (but then again, what guy isn't?), and he is starting to regain his faith in the world by seeing it through a girl whose vision is untainted by depression and hopelessness...He left her when things were getting good because he was afraid of being happy...but now he realizes that being sad sucks, and that he should let love in and give happiness a chance. " i like that. i don't know if that's what the song is about, but i like the way that sounds. |

| Elliott Smith – I Figured You Out Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
i'm hearing: i've seen you watching her every time she crosses the floor so why don't you just go and talk to the one you really adore i'm getting pretty used to being a no-one you always ignore when somebody wants you i've seen it before you're every kind of color there ain't nothing that you won't claim your ambition and promise and your addiction to fame and everyone's got a dollar sign after their name and when somebody wants you you treat 'em just the same so go on and pick up you don't care what poison you choose and what person you lose should've been me, yeah shouldn't it be? a crushing quiet blows in through your window to someone that wants you that you'll never know But I'll pick up around you and clear everything out leave you where i found you i figured you out leave you where i found you i figured you out. |

| i love the part where the drums come in. it's right in the middle of a verse but it's timed so perfectly. | |
| Death Cab for Cutie – Soul Meets Body Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| i like that how the melody in the 'buh buh buh' section is reused in the 'roads left in both our shoes' section. i like that repetition. | |
| Elliott Smith – Waltz #2 Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
i wish this song was about something else. like, i'd want it to have the same melody, but i'd like it to be about "i'm never gonna know you now, but i'm gonna love you anyhow"... like, he was infatuated with this girl but never got the nerve to talk to her, then he lost her somehow (she died or moved or something). to me, that's a beautiful song meaning. it's just that, this song isn't about that. if i could write lyrics, i'd SO write that song. only, i'd steal this chorus, because it's so perfect. |

| Elliott Smith – Oh Well, Okay Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
elliott smith had one of the purest voices, like a bowl of clear water. i think he's attempting to comfort a friend but the friend is shutting him out: "here's the silhouette the face always turned away" the face is turned away, as if he (or she) doesn't want to talk to elliott. "the bleeding color gone to black, dying like a day" don't quite understand this lyric, admittedly. "couldn't figure out what made you so unhappy/shook your head to say no no no" elliott is asking him what's making him unhappy, but he is just shaking his head: 'no. nothing' "and stopped for a spell/and stayed that way" i assume this means that elliot's friend's life has halted because he's so jaded and won't come out of his shell. "oh well, okay" this is elliott saying 'oh well, if you're not going to let me in then i'm wasting my time.' "i got pictures, i just don't see it anymore" perhaps elliott's friend is insisting that he's never been happy, but elliott has pictures.... he just can't see it in him anymore. "climbing hour upon hour through a total bore/with the one i keep where it never fades/in the safety of a pitch black mind/ an airless cell that blocks the day" don't understand these lines, which probably means they're the most important to deciphering the song. "if you a get a feeling the next time you see me/do me a favor and let me know" elliott's saying, 'let me in.' "cause it's hard to tell, it's hard to say, 'oh well, okay'" he's saying that it's hard to just give up on his friend. |

| Eminem – Cleaning Out My Closet Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
i don't usually like rap, but i like some of eminem's stuff. "And Hailie's gettin' so big now, you should see her, she's beautiful. But you'll never see her, she won't even be at your funeral. See what hurts me the most is you won't admit you was wrong, Bitch, do ya song. Keep tellin' yourself that you was a mom. But how dare you try to take what you didn't help me to get. You selfish bitch, I hope you fuckin' burn in hell for this shit." is some of the most powerful lyrics i've heard |
|
| Elliott Smith – Between the Bars Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
you know, as much as i've tried to deny it, and as much as i don't like it, i really think it's about booze. it sounds like elliott is singing from the drink's perspective. "drink up with me now and forget all about the pressure of days.... do what i say and i'll make you okay and drive them away.... the images stuck in your head" or at least in that section that's what it sounds like. the rest (and even that part), i like to be idealistic and see it from the perspective of someone trying to comfort their jaded friend/lover. either way, elliott smith has an AWESOME voice and an amazing style. |

| Mineral – The Last Word Is Rejoice Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
i'll say this for the (many)th time. mineral is NOT intentionally a christian band. many of their lyrics can be interpreted as christian, and that's great. it's just not the intended meaning. i myself am a christian and i think that if mineral were a christian band, they would have the best and most true christian lyrics out there. |
