I think this song is about the Goddess, like all his songs (almost) "You're under water, now you're back where you came from", the ocean is a common metaphor for death and the goddess (who is death) Your beauty must be rubbing off might mean something like he is coming to know Her better and to see things from her perspective. Hawksley's ties to the Goddess are very evident if you are familiar with his poetry book, Hawksley Burns for Isadora
