Going to disagree with you, Dave. This song is about how people worry about all of these huge things and go out to try and find this amazing life, when in reality they have everything need right in front of them, because love and your family is all that really matters and everything else is "so small" and insignificant in comparison. |

I think it's about losing a loved one, not in death, but like.. breaking up/breaking the heart of a signifigant other around Christmas and being sad while everyone else is just ridiculously happy simply because of the season.. and wanting to get away from that because you want to just be sad. At first, I thought the song was about a couple breaking up, or talking about how to fix things.. like a girl confronting a boy about cheating, etc.. (admit to everything, all that) but then I read about the mentoring of a teen on drugs and that DEFINATELY make sense. There's a lot of little hints about that in the song. The biggest one I see is the first line "STEP ONE"... There are steps to overcoming addictions if you do it one certain way, so.. That makes sense to me. |

I agree that it's all about growing up, but all of that tied into falling in love. How he repeated the same verse, just about, for 15 and 99, shows the different. At 15 you want so much to fall in love and be with someone and in reality it normally never works out. But when you're 99, you've probably lost the one you DID truly love, and so you're waiting for them just like you were when you were young. I hope that makes sense |
