The Audition – Approach the Bench Lyrics 18 years ago
I believe this song is about cheating. He's explaining to his 'significant other' that he won't be able to stay faithful. "The crimes I've committed aren't heard by any judge
And there are only two in this courtroom and I must confess". He's confessing to his infidelity but the only one to judge the situation is the both of them. He cares about the girl but doesn't wanna be tied down. "What's done is done and I'm not the type that can't be conned into being convinced.
We both know this". Obviously he has cheated and I second the forbidden woman thing. "I should be ashamed of this, I'm not,
'Cause I have tasted grapes". He should be ashamed of what he has done to his girl, but isn't. He realizes that his actions aren't ok and that he needs to warn this girl of the kind of person he is before she can be hurt any more. "This smile, don't look.
It's my bait, my words, the hook". The only thing that is keeping him from confessing to his actions is the reprocutions of them and he's basically telling her that she shouldn't trust him with anything. "These acts of immorality are the only things keeping me quiet
Why can't you just accept the fact that I'm only as loyal as my options?
I can't believe that you would ever trust me". I think that him being a rolling stone and being on the road is warning her that being on the road and having hot women around all the time can be a temptation and he probably wouldn't be faithful. But at the same time he wonders if she's by herself at home or if she's just as unfaithful as him because she knows he won't be home to catch her so she cheats too. "You could call me a rolling stone
'cause I'm always on the road
Every night I wonder if you're there alone". That's just my take on the song. I don't know if it would make sense to anyone else.
