Marilyn Manson – The Beautiful People Lyrics 18 years ago
I think "It's as anatomic as the size of your steeple" is a reference to Darwinistic superiority, survival of the fittest ect... and how people justify that they are better than other people (richer=bigger steeple) because they we're genetically fit to be better than other people (anatomically). Kind of like saying its okay that people are born in different classes because class and wealth take the place of physical attributes in modern Darwinism (It's sarcasm of course).

Marilyn Manson – The Beautiful People Lyrics 18 years ago
"There's no time to discriminate, Hate every motherfucker That's in your way."
The theme of The Great Gatsby (Scott F. Fitzgerald) was that people believe they are more important than each other, and wont hesitate to use other people as stepping-stones as they see fit. Essentially that's the theme of this song; it's a satirical piece describing people that believe others are lesser humans. Also I think Mechanical Animals (song) did a better job representing this theme since it better exemplified that as people use each other as stepping stones they pretend to befriend the people they walk on. It's a decent song I suppose, but I don't think it was video worthy; Cryptochid, The Reflecting God, Antichrist Superstar, and Irresponsible Hate Anthem, Man That You Fear were the best five on this album in my opinion.

Marilyn Manson – Coma Black Lyrics 18 years ago
Definitely one of my favorite songs. Personal opinion is that this is probably Manson's most literal song (Non-metaphorical, non-satirical). It's also very spiteful and written from pain and angst: "I'd kill myself to make everybody pay" and such things.

Marilyn Manson – The Reflecting God Lyrics 18 years ago
"I went to God just to see and I was looking at me"
Biblical reference to God making man in his own image-Effectually we are all Gods, in that we are all set in charge of our actions.
"Saw heaven and hell were lies when I'm gone everyone dies"
This line is about perception. People (other than ourselves) exist to us in conceptualization. Each individual has all the people they know defined, and in that way all people exist only through the thoughts of other people. When we die, our conceptualization of what people are is erased (assuming lack of afterlife) Therefore, from the perception of the person who dies, everyone dies.

Thrice – Hold Fast Hope Lyrics 20 years ago
Also to fadetoflashes, the reason most of Thrice's songs (as well as the songs of any other good bands) aren't immediately catchy, is because they lack the redundancy and simplicity of pop music. Due to the fact that there are always several sounds coming in at once, and the fact that quite often they are unique, it usually takes more than one time listening to the song to pick up the melody as intended. I'm sorry some people lack the attention span appreciate linear written songs as opposed to song that cycle several times. As for Image of the Invisible, I admit it gets a little redundant hearing the same thing over and over again. That said, Image of the Invisible isn't nearly as bad in that category as the popular songs spit out by the majority of bands are.

Thrice – Blood Clots And Black Holes Lyrics 20 years ago
I have to say I think kalckel has been closest to a plausable meaning for this song. My reasoning for that is because the lines "to be at peace would be a sin and surely un-american" cannot be taken any way except for literally. Therefore all the less obvious lines in the song revolve around that particular line. This song is was most likely written as another critizism of American policies.

This song really reminded me of the 2004 presidential elections and how the homosexuality issue took presidence over economic issues. Although economic condition was at an all time low, the 2004 election was decided almost completely on the issue of gay marriages, when really it was never a major issue at all. Instead it was what the current reigning party was able to sedate the American public with anf keep their minds off of issues that were actually important. Thus the gay marriage issue was our like our medicine even though it wasn't meant to fix anything, just act is a veil to cover our problems.

I know I left out a lot of explainations for individual lines in this song, however, the complexity of it makes it really hard to define exactly. I hope what I did leave is enough for someone else to play off of, since none of te previous entrys were hitting it right for me.

Thrice – The Abolition Of Man Lyrics 20 years ago
The lyrics as posted match that of the Cd's inlet. That said, randomconvogirl definitely has the correct lyrics, for anyone who has ever actually heard the song. I'm not sure why that is, I have seen similar mistakes in a Sum41 Cd inlet. Perhaps it was original how the song was intended to be sung.

Now as to how it sounds: This song, along with Paper Tigers, has allowed me to seperate Thrice's genre from that of any other band. It takes the vocals to a level that has been described as "barking". The most extreme cases of this occur in the lines "we laugh at honor and are shocked when we find knives in our backs" and simply "look in my eyes". It is not screamo, and yet it is beyond yelling. Simply put, no other band has sucessfully recreated that kind of sound, so for me this song is poster example of how unique Thrice can be.

Thrice – The Earth Will Shake Lyrics 20 years ago
Actually, in responce to the previous post this song is another reference to a C.S. Lewis story, not a biblical reference, as stated in the Cd inlet. And "his brother told me when I met him at a christian camp" is hardly evidence of anything. Three members of the band are admittedly Christian. And they make some biblical references. The fact stands that Thrice isn't limited by any label, not only in their lyrics, but also in their sound. The fact is Thrice could write any kind of song and it would be absolutely perfect.

Thrice – Image of the Invisible Lyrics 20 years ago
I agree with personalchaos 17. Just because it makes references to a Christian book doesn't necessarily make it a Christian song. For instance Thrice often makes references to C.S. Lewis books, yet that does not mean that it is about strengthing one's commitment to that particular author. No Thrice song is openly Christian because they prefer us to make our own interpretations. I fail to see that any Thrice song could be openly Christian after Eclipse missed the US version of The Artist In The Ambulance for being too spiritial.
