| Volcano Choir – Still Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Agreed. Probably my favorite off of their album, at least for now. Unfortunately, the lyrics probably don't mean anything. :P | |
| Passion Pit – Swimming in the Flood Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Wow...this might be my favorite off the new album. Those strings at the beginning, and then the drum machine popping in, is so....well, I'll stop gushing. Except I'm afraid I don't have any meaningful analysis to add. Oh well. :P | |

| Amen to that. | |
| Coldplay – Yellow Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Aaaww..I never thought of that, but I like it! Yellow is associated with happiness, isn't it? I always wondered why they chose that color. | |
| Coldplay – Yellow Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think I'm detecting some sarcasm on odelayih's part. ;) | |
| fun. – At Least I'm Not as Sad (As I Used to Be) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I can't help but think that this song in some ways refers to the last days of Nate's old band, the Format (may they yet return!). I dunno; it's just that I know Dog Problems had a lot to do with being left/betrayed by a lover, and now here's Nate singing a rather jaded-sounding song about how he doesn't fall in love, how he no longer keeps friends and basically looks out only for himself ("I'm here to profit"). I'm probably wrong, considering the three-year gap between Dog Problems and this album. Whatever; in any case, I really like this song. | |

Sweet, Alanz! Hooray for Polish people (*high five*). Though I'm not Polish myself, but, um, yeah. Anyway, yus, I remember listening to this song, coming to the end of it, then realizing: "Whoa! That was almost an entire quarter of an hour!" Freaky. And as to the song's meaning, you guys have basically summed up anything else I'd say, so Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam (Latin, that is...I feel so sophisticated) and tootles to you all. I've homework to finish. |

You're right, pretty self-explanatory. For some reason, though, I like that stuff about picking up Elvis...James McCabe, that is. Kinda funny |

| Train – Counting Airplanes Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I put ketchup on a lot of stuff, too...but not scrambled eggs. I won't even eat the things. Eggs, blaugh. | |
| Dave Matthews Band – Dreamgirl Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
The opening a capella stuff in this song just rocks my socks. The opening lyrics (the "dig a hole to China" stuff) is also amazing; poetic and beautiful but also pretty nonsensical, in my humble opinion. I have a sort of love/hate relationship with songs like this. DMB's love songs are gorgeous, but they also tend to be rather sexual, and not to sound like a prude, but there's more to love (the romantic kind) than sex. I'm not saying Dave doesn't explore the other stuff; it's just that the lust seems, at times, a bit disproportionate to the love. But that's just me. |

| Switchfoot – Happy Is A Yuppie Word Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
It seems to me to be about the world: how it is unstable, unreliable, and its material wealth is ultimately unsatisfying (hence "nothing is sound"). The sooner we wise up to the fact that this world will never make us truly happy (consider the fact that yuppies tend to be very materialistic), the sooner we can learn to make the most out of life, deal with suffering and annoyances when they come, and turn our focus to God where it should be. ~A.M.D.G. |

| Peter Gabriel – Games Without Frontiers Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Hrrrmmm... I really have no idea what it means, but it seems like it could be about lost innocence, or something. And I just made a connection--this song mentions children playing in the jungle, but the music kind of gives the suggestion that while their play may be innocent, there is something lurking in it, or in the jungle...just a general feeling of foreboding. Does that make anyone else think of "Lord of the Flies"? |

| Peter Gabriel – San Jacinto Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I agree with drds63. It has something to do with the Native American/"white man" conflicts in America, or it's using those conflicts as a metaphor for something. | |
| Alanis Morissette – Crazy (Seal cover) Lyrics | 20 years ago |

Negative reaction, I see. Had no idea this was a Seal song, I've just heard it on the radio, and actually liked it a lot. Anyone have any clue what it's about? |

| Switchfoot – Easier Than Love Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
The "Suburban youth" line is one of my favorite lines in the song. It desperately needs to be said. Teens everywhere are being given the twisted idea that sex is nothing more than a drug or recreation that they have a right to use and abuse. It is not; it is much more, and if it is abused, it has severe consequences. But some teens don't want to hear that. Oh, and I think I have to be nit-picky too. I think this part: "(Sing) It's easier to love, It's easier to love, It's easier to fake and smile and brag" might be wrong. I think it goes: "(Sex) Is easier than love...." and so on. Don't quote me on that, though. |

| Coldplay – The Hardest Part Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I agree with StephMLow...it seems to be about letting someone (or something) go, because you think it's best, even though it's painful. I find it especially pertinent because I'm a Catholic teen and have been considering joining the priesthood when the time comes to get a job/figure out my vocation. I've felt "called" to the priesthood lately (though it's entirely possible I'm not, still), but becoming a priest would require a painful sacrifice, namely celibacy. I'd have to "let go" of the possibilty of ever loving someone in the romantic sense. That would be the hardest part. |

| U2 – Crumbs From Your Table Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I remember hearing this song, and a different meaning occured to me. The way I saw it (probably very different from how Bono intended it), Bono was singing from the perspective of an atheist, who has a Christian friend who is trying to convert him with arguments and logic, but the atheist says it will take more than logic to convince him ("You speak of signs and wonders, but I need something other"). Namely, good actions on the Christian's part, as the Christian is something of a hypocrite ("You deny for others what you demand for yourself...You were pretty as a picture...then your face caught up with your psychology"). I saw it as a warning to us Christians that attempting to evangelize is pointless if you don't practice what you preach, as actions speak louder than words. Of course, that's just me. ;) |

| Coldplay – A Message Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
This is a nice song. Like many of us here, I can apply these lyrics to my own life, and to a certain (*cough, cough*) someone. However... Am I the only one that kinda wishes Coldplay would stop writing exclusively (almost--Politik is an exception, I guess) love songs? I mean, that's purty 'n' all, but it's not original subject matter. By far, Colplay's strength is in their music, which is often gorgeous, but their lyrics could be a bit more creative. Sorry, I guess that's not pertinent to the song, but I had to get that gripe out. |

| Dave Matthews Band – Digging a Ditch Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Seems to me just to be about escaping from the bazillion distractions and frivolous things that make up our lives these days, and that really do weigh us down. | |
| The Goo Goo Dolls – Better Days Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I agree with topain...etc. I see it as a song about Christmas, and about how Christmas is a sort of new beginning for people. On the first Christmas, Christ came as a poor child, to redeem the world and give it new life. And what's wrong with Give a Little Bit? That's pretty much the only upbeat song I've heard by the GGD (of course, I only hear their songs that are played on the radio, so I guess I wouldn't know) and I think it's pretty snaz-zay. |
