Dream Theater – In the Name of God Lyrics 18 years ago
Right around 12:30 or 13:30 the words you are speaking of are the first Stanza and chorus to "The Battle Hymn of The Republic" Which is really just amazing as soon as you start to hear it. It's an old civil war song, and I was doing a project on this song, when i hear voices randomly, and thought the T.V. was on, until I put the cd on repeat and listened again, hearing the voices. I cant find the lyrics to that part but will post when I find them. Dream Theater Rocks.

I totally agree with shidesha, seeing as how people will go to church, wear a cross, but not act out their faith.

Also, the line I've painted my own Mona Lisa i believe talks of how he has made his own utopia, or everything perfect, since the Mona Lisa is considered to be the best piece of art painted, thus saying that he has achieved a perfect state, or his own happy place

As for religion bashing...why?
I mean heck go read 1 Corinthians 9-11....that is what christianity is all about, so go and eduacte yourselves first.

Here's an idea for someone who really wants to be tripped out on DT...Listen to all the albums (It'll take a freaking long time) then go through Octavarium...if what Blah has said was right, then maybe it should seem like a re-cap to all the albums like it does for me...Then the 8th and final song is like all the albums put into one (not how you will hear snippets from various songs come in at one point or another)

...just a thought...

I spit some Dr. Pepper on my Computer's monitor when i read TheSteve's comment...

One thing is that note how it's so heavy on "full circle" like how that happens in A change of seasons.

The last key played in this song is the first key for The Root of All Evil

I originally didn't like this song, but it grew on me really fast.

This song targets not just radical-muslims, yet all people who are taking a religion and twisting it. It takes a stance against polygamy, the crusades [which where lead by people who were christian] and more. It says does following FAITH, not any particular religion, lead us to violence. The only thing that I seem that is important to keep in mind is that there are still many wonderful things going on in the name of god, not just evil. If you sit down, and listen to the lyrics, print 'em out and mark them, it also appears that there is an argument in the song at "Straight is the path
Leading to your salvation
Slaying the weak
Ethnic elimination "

then comes in a different person (still sung by Labrie)

"Any day we'll all be
Swept away
You'll be saved
As long as you obey"

then the retort of
"Any day we'll all be
Swept away
You'll be saved
As long as you obey"

also the eighty murdered in the name of god line i believe (not to sure) is talking about the cult where someone put cyanide in a punch-bowl and had everyone die.

Those are my 2 cents.

two things: First of all--what's wrong with sounding like metallica?

Secondly: If you listen to the beginning, in my opinion this song syncs up with the end of Losing Time/Grand Finale---so is there any relation to these two songs, or am I just drawing loose connections?

Dream Theater – Losing Time / Grand Finale Lyrics 20 years ago
I'm curious about the fact that (As i was sitting one day) this song ends, and i have my tracks sorted by album, and up pops As I Am....If you listen to the ending of this song, + the beginning of As I Am, you will notice that they are very similar and almost like an engine revving up again, so my question is-- Could this song be related to As I Am? I mean the words are kind of similar (the idea) even though the songs mood are signifigantly different.
