to me this song talks about situations in life where you want to do the honest thing but the wordly fleshly thing is pulling you to it. you float back and forth between Godly things and wordly things, afraid to "lose the taste" that worldly things have, giving them up for the greater good which is God. Sometimes we walk the line too close, and have to get pulled back, because the world is so tempting in everything it offers. |

Okay now this is the only Emery tune that I listen to on a regular basis, and to me it describes the hole in each of us that regularly struggles with things in the earth that we try to use to fill the space that only God can fill. Sex, drugs, clothes, our outer shell, whatever. I like the line about perfect shoes with matching clothes, because women especially think that dressing perfectly will make their life perfect. Material things and sex and drugs will work only temporarily, until we see that we've come to the place where that's not working anymore, and we try to fill it with more of the same or something new. There describes the typical unsaved American. The only thing that fills this space is Jesus. I know from experience, and always come back to the same thing. Jesus is the only one that can give me peace beyond all understanding. |

I always noticed that there was this huge pause in between "Higher" and "Arms Wide Open" on my Creed Greatest hits CD. I wondered why...until one day I was listening in the car and the engine was off and I realized at the beginning is not a pause but a heartbeat. I so love that part now. |

Too bad Creed broke up, but Scott Stapp on his own has potential... Anyway, this song is really great, I believe its NO WAY about disco, but it is about that this world we live in can be so horible at times, and despite what's happening we must keep fighting. The children don't know how bad the world is yet, so they are carefree and can dance without caring what people think about it. As we grow older, we get self-concious, lose our ability to dream about the future sometimes, and get bogged down by our problems.
