Guillemots – We're Here Lyrics 19 years ago
obviously the lyrics mean 'it ain't why it just is' - I love this band because they seem able to sum up my philosophy in life into songs.

the song is surely about just letting things be as they are and enjoying being in the now. Don't know if it is written about being in a particular place, hopefully it's more about a general sense of being - one where there are no why's and how's but just a letting go and an acceptance of the NOW!

Guillemots – Trains to Brazil Lyrics 19 years ago
well - putting aside the title and the tribute to Menezes and looking at just the lyrics without that knowledge... personally I think the song must be about someone who loved someone but then lost them. I think the 'hands of these Erroneous fools' line is not really to do with terrorists but more than that. I always imagined the protagonist was in someway killed as a result of systems/people/fools who somehow are ultimately responsible for their death.

I love the 'And to those of you who moan your lives through one day to the next
Well, let them take you to next
Can't you live and be thankful you're here?
see it could be you tomorrow, next year ' line is great. I always thought it was a shout to those people maybe rolling their eyes at the song itself, those rlling their eyes and saying 'jesus, not another protest song' and that the lyrics are saying you have to moan about things that are worth moaning about, don't moan at people who are trying to get their voices heard... DO SOMETHING.

Martha Wainwright – Bloody Motherfucking Asshole Lyrics 20 years ago
I connect strongly with this song, not because I think the sweary chorus is the most important thing, but because of the lines 'I will not pretend
I will not put on a smile
I will not say I'm all right for you
When all I wanted was to be good
To do everything in truth
To do everything in truth'

She is basically saying - just because you are my father it doesn't mean I haveto pretend everything is alright. I read it was written most directly about her experience of discovering a song her father had written was about her. In the song (The name escapes me) he basically sings about her being a pain and wishing she would go away.

Rufus Wainwright – Little Sister Lyrics 20 years ago
I may be very wrong but to me this song is about the professional rivalry along with the fact that Rufus as a boy/male will get more attention, more promotion etc... Basicaly Rufus is acknowledging his sisters talent but saying that they shouldn't let rivalries get in the way of their relationship, rather accept that he will be favoured as the talent until the time that her genius is recognised.

Maybe he is saying 'so long as we know that you are as talented then lets not let it break us apart as brother and sister'
