Band of Horses – Cigarettes, Wedding Bands Lyrics 18 years ago
Upon further listening I think it's

"See the whole scene unravel"

Also...

The picture was left on the front porch, the back said
"I love you, don't you ever think of me?"

I hear...

The working man's day, we just piss it away
We sit out in the weather
Familiar, he said, times two breeds contempt
Wash your hands of it forever

The picture was left on the front porch, well that's it
I love you, don't you ever think of me?
If my body goes into hell with my soul
We don't even know the difference
But dead folks in the clouds, for crying out loud! (my favorite line of the song)

As for the chorus I have no idea...Pitchfork Media's review says,

"Bridwell does accomplish the nifty trick of turning an accusation into a formidable pop hook: "While they lied-dee-die! Lah-dee-dah! While they lied!" "

But it could be "lied at night", I honestly can't tell.

As for the song itself, it might be my favorite from the new album.
It keeps with the ongoing album theme of small-town familiarity but with more impact and signifance; love, life, death, violence, lies...conveys a whole lot of issues but confined in the small, underwhelming setting. I like it.

I liked EATT more, but this album has it moments and I'm glad they tried something new.

Anyone think there is some similarities in this song and in What Sarah Said...not in terms of meaning, but just the beginning, they sound alot alike, I dunno maybe it's just me.

Death Cab for Cutie – Styrofoam Plates Lyrics 20 years ago
I just recently got the Death Cab dvd, "Drive Well, Sleep Carefully"...(it's awesome)...Ben explains that this song was written about when his good friend's father passed away and the funeral seemed like people knew he was not a nice guy but they were trying to sugar coat it. Ben wrote the lyrics on the way back from the funeral. Great song, one of my favorite from death cab
