this song is beautiful. you can just hear the emotion in his voice. i especially love the break down "just take your time..." it seems to be about someone who is holding on to a relationship in hopes that things will get better when there is nothing left to hold to. |

i didnt take the time to read all of these comments so i dont know if this has been said but here it goes... I think that this song is written for Chris' daughter, Apple. It is his advice to her throughout the rest of her life. How she will love and lose, be happy then sad, and all at the same time feel lost as if she has nothing. But he is saying that no matter what, he will always be there for her and that whenever she needs him, she will find her way "home" to him where he will try his hardest to fix his little girl. The clencher is when he says "I promise you I will learn from my mistakes" because Apple is his first child and he will make many from her. He doesnt want to see her hurt, so he's going to try his hardest for her. The song is just so cute when you look at it that way. What a great Father-Daughter song. |

| i dont think its necessarily saying "never give up." rather, why do we hold on so long. i think he is trying to break out of this continuous need to hold on to something that isnt making him happy, yet despite all this he keeps trying. they stay together bc they are comfortable where they are and afraid of what else is out there. it just reminds me of a recent relationship i got out of. despite your best efforts and intentions, you and your boyfriend/girlfriend "have gone and lost the fire." | |
