Alice in Chains – Down In A Hole Lyrics 19 years ago
I think many of you are overanalyzing this song. To me, it's a song of losing (or missing) a lover. The lines "Bury me softly in this womb", "I give this piece of me for you", and most of all, "oh, I want to be inside of you" seem to clearly point that out. The rest of the lyrics just seem to be a very poetic interpretation of how you feel (as a man) when your female partner leaves you. It's a blow to the ego ("I have been guilty of kicking myself in the teeth.", and the line "I will speak no more of the feelings beneath" reflect the social stereotype that all men should be stoic and hardened and, if they even feel emotion, they sure don't talk about it.

I could be completely wrong but somehow I just don't see the song adding up to being about heroin, especially since Staley didn't actually write the song.

Mary Elizabeth Mcglynn – Waiting For You Lyrics 20 years ago
Actually the song itself was written for the Silent Hill 4: The Room soundtrack. I see how you might think it's about James and Maria's relationship, however the lyrics more pointedly imply the feelings of a young Walters being confused about who his true mother was (and thus attributing the room he spent his earliest years in as his "mother"). It's a pretty messed up story, but I love it.
