| Yellowcard – Lights and Sounds Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| If you notice, Yellowcard has actually assimilated themselves into the mainstream, which is both a positive and a negative thing. Songs like grey, and words hands hearts, epitomize their older music, the pop-punk from OFTK, while songs like Lights and Sounds give us a more solid defination of where they may take their music in the future. In my opinion all their music is excellent, but it would be nice to hear a few more pop-punk tunes. | |
| Yellowcard – Waiting Game Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Hmm, the meaning of this song is 'grey', uncertain to me, however as i listened to it in my car, I pondered the thought that it could be a spirtual song, about jesus possibly. I don't know their religion so this is purely speculation: "Though we tried to stay the same It never leaves And when it changes it is still a waiting game" Generally, one to achieve salvation needs to be one with christ, or accept them into their hearts, souls etc, so they become 'one' or the same. Jesus supposedly is with you always, and when, if he leaves, he still waits to be taken to somewhere, (an afterlife). "I wait for a lonely breath I wait to surface from this death Wait for the light to come And take away these images I get In my head" It may be a bit of a stretch, but lonely signifies one, or the only, and lonely breath to me means his last breath. Surface from this death, rise above, to heaven. Wait for the light to come, often when encountered with death, people see beams of light coming from heaven. Take away these images i get in my head; he wants to not have to imagine anymore, so he can experience it for himself, not what people draw, or what people say, but wants to see heaven for himself. "More than ever I need to feel you More than ever I see the real you" First half relates to physical life, I need to feel you, like they are one, he needs him to be in his heart. Second half relates to the spirtual life, and now hes in heaven and sees Jesus "You are me A worst disaster would be waking up alone Now we're free We're drifting out Like all the ones we didn't know I wait for a silent tear I wait for things to disappear Wait for the ground to stop moving underneath my only fear If I lose you I don't know" I think its You and Me, Our worst disaster, but ok aside from that Waking up alone would mean, they are not one, he is no longer 'saved' and another one of Jesus's children would not go to heaven, hence it is a disaster for them both. Now we're free We're drifting out Like all the ones we didn't know They're free from their bodies, drifting in the wind, like everyone that had died before them that they didnt get to meet, know. "I wait for a silent tear I wait for things to disappear Wait for the ground to stop moving underneath my only fear If I lose you I don't know" Silent tear refers to death, all is silent when someone dies, and a tear is shed from their loved ones. Everything essentially 'dissappears' from your life, the ground stops moving because he is no longer walking on ground; He does not know his future if he is not saved. Everything, everything We've had Out of sight out of mind Given that What I see when I dream Hurts like hell and back In the end everything he has means nothing, and everything that he could have had hurts like 'hell' and back, which hints at something :P |

| Yellowcard – Two Weeks From Twenty Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Whether or not it was written [wmuwse], for anti war purposes, thats beside the fact, the fact is that hes hating on a band because of one song, which shouldnt be the case. If he didnt know what it was a bout, and saw the video.. then he would, in theory, hate GD too because he is a die hard conservative. Ok, enough of debate cuz dnask8 will get owned. Back to the greatness of this song.. | |

| Yellowcard – Grey Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Great song, I'm the first to post on it yay!! Probably one of the more straightforward songs, so i'll justdo a quick analysis : First off, As black and white, pertains to correct or incorrect, grey is a combination of both, and hence generates uncertainty. Topic in mind: In my opinion: Uncertain about the band/career The world, is often refered to as 'it', as is his "carrer" "Grey skies clouding up the things we used to see with wide eyes Maybe everything was meant to be this way Will it ever change But are we stuck here on our own" Grey skies foreshadow's an uncertain future, one that they used to see with wide eyes, or clearly Maybe everything was meant to be this way - the use of maybe also shows uncertainty, as does the question, "will it ever change, are we stuck here on our own?" It's all gone grey; his carrer has become uncertain "I found telling you the truth the hardest thing to get out I know it wasn't you that made me feel this way Will it ever change Or are we stuck here on our own." Telling anyone who he cares about is hard, because he doesnt know his own path, that person never made him feel so lost, and he brings up the question again to emphasize his uncertainty Give it one more try; his carrer in LA I dont know if i would stay, In LA I feel so much better now, hes gotten away Baby begging me, his carrer, when it was young was a 'baby' and it begs him to stay because its where they got their success Will leave you so empty inside, everything in LA is superficial anwayys, no point in staying; so dont even try to stay "I know every last regret inside of me is my own The way I hold them close has made me be this way I will never change I know I'm stuck here on my own, on my own" Everything that hes done, and has come to regret he knows is his own fault, and his concern with it has led him to become unstable for the lack of a better word. He realises that he will never change, unless he leaves, hence if he stays, he is , "stuck here on his own" I dont know if i would stay - same as above i feel so much better now - after hes gone away Where did we go wrong?- Why are these emotions evoked I know you still hold on to me - his career still holds on partially to where it started But it's time that you let go- about time he left LA I gave you things i had, that i could not get back again - Everything hes done for it, all the time, hardwork, he cant get back, but it still isnt worth stayin Hence, his carrer is uncertain, and "its all gone grey"... arty. |

| Yellowcard – Two Weeks From Twenty Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
dnask8, I think that they have their own opinions, whether they believe fighting for your country is prideful or not. "All he had was a line for his name So he could sign away his right to be proud" He did sign it, so obviously, Jimmy thought it was prideful. The fact is, Yellowcard, like most bands are liberal. This song IS about the war in iraq, and you're political opinions only contradict your stupidity. You dont want them talkin about the war and such, but you yourself bring your own political views, i voted for bush blah blah. no one cares if he 'had it together better' than kerry or not, the fact is, soldier ARE being killed in war, and it does affect people at home. And in the end, to those people was the war worth the people's lives? answer is no. As a whole, our country may believe it was worth it but to 'his lady', his mom, and his friends, it simply wasnt. Don't diss on YC because of their political views, and one song shouldn't make you 'like' or 'hate' them. Go listen to Wake me up when September Ends by greenday, you'll hate them too |

| Yellowcard – Words, Hands, Hearts Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I think that this song is about terrorism, kinda co-relates to Two weeks from twenty. However instead of depicting the life of a soldier, it shows the reasoning behind the war. The whole world was sleeping beacuse they did not expect it. "Like no one's words were good enough to define what we feared And no one's words were strong enough to fix what happened here" No one really defined terrorism, and on the morning of 9/11 it was really unexpected. umm.. No one's words were strong enough to fix what happend here, no one could unify the country through this major disaster "Lead on to save me Lead us all there Find me some answers One nation beware Can't tell the difference between myth and man Or what's necessary or where I should stand" He doesnt know Why its happening [ the war], terrorists are sometimes refered to as being unhuman; but in actuality we're all the same, so we cant 'tell the difference' whats necessary refers to the steps we need to take to fix this tragedy, where i should stand is where he should stand on this issue, which he opposes. The once peaceful world, (at least through the media) has changed for the worse, with the distrust; "the world has changed now that men have died" "They can just sense this feeling in our eyes" Americans never look at middle-easterners the same again "Like no one's hands are big enough To hold onto this fear And no one's hands are strong enough to fix what happened here" No one can hold onto this fear of terrorism alone, we as a nation fear terrorism, and no one person can fix what happend, we all must get over it as a whole. "raise our voices loud, we're searching for something that cannot be found" These lines indicate that, people are sad, angry, because of what happend, but if we do raise our voices loud, a solution, cannot be found, without forgiveness." "here open mouths/i see open hands/blinded and silent i cant understand" this goes to the differnt types of people; those that talk about how bad people are and those who are willing to lend a hand, and forgive. "the whole world is watching with one blank stare" America seems to be all alone in the war v. terrorism I can just sense this feeling of ill-repair, things arent getting better "Like no ones heart is full enough To keep away this fear And no ones heart is strong enough to fix what happened here" When it comes down to it, one person cant keep away this fear of terroristm, and no one person can fix this problem on their own, no matter their position or power -art |

| not according to Alternate press magazine, with an interview with ben. I quote, " I showed up to rehersal [for the Japanese tour] and thought everything was going to be okay. I was sent a 30-day notice to my record-label office a month before htis, [and] I said, "No, I'm not leaving this band. This is my band!" One of the things [the notice said] was, "get away from Takeover Records. Leave it alone." So I show up at rehersal, we played, and they started talking to me. They basically said, "See you later." Even then, I was like, "No Way". | |

| Yellowcard – Holly Wood Died Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
My Favorite Song off Lights and Sounds, Guitar Solo Rocks anyways, this song is about, hollywood dying, from the title that obvious, on a deeper level, the fictional atmosphere surrounding hollywood, the glamour, the popularity, the spotlight, is too emphacized. The feeling of accomplishment you recieve from going to hollywood, which is the only motivation to go to hollywood, has died, all the inspiration they've recieved is gone. Now, that i've explained the possible 'literal' meaning of the song, i will attempt to decode the other message. One of the things that i think make YellowCard one of my favorite bands, are they're great lyrics. Not only do they talk about the loss of inspiration from holly wood, but they also express the equality between celebrities and regular people, through the use of a fictional character, Holly. "Names on her sidewalks they move through her body, Like razors they cut through her heart" Like any other person, razors cut through her heart, rescurers work to keep her alive as well as any other person. "Night life and highlife she just wants a good life " Celebrities are often known to have big "night lives", however, many are unsatisfied by this and want a SIMPLE life. a good life. "so someone remembers her too but somewhere she heard there was someplace to go " Someone remembers her too, refers to possible family, not just the millions of fans, because once she dies, theres no one who shes had a real impact on, like a child. Someplace to go refers to an afterlife, and in afterlife, all people are judged equally, status is not an issue. "when you die when you live like we do die when you live like we do" Same as above, afterlife, when you die like we do, being celebrities, and regular people. "Hey let go of all you know, I’m finding a way now What have you got to lose Say out loud these words I’ve found I’ll be there when you come down I’ll be waiting for you" These lines, let go of all you know, serve to show that in the end, everything that you 'know' is meaningless without someone to impress them upon, Say anything you want, celebrities have very little to lose. However, IF they do infact lose it all, someone will be waiting for them, an ordinary person, who doesnt look up to them for their hollywood status. A real person who cared would love someone for themselves. My own Double Meaning of Holly Wood Died. Hope it helped and was plausable Arty |

| Yellowcard – City Of Devils Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
In this song, Yellowcard expresses their sense of isolation in Los Angeles. Los Angeles, also known as the "City of Angels", To Yellowcard, its quite the contrary, "City of Devils" They express their isolation through the last lines, "I don't belong", "I've been here too long" Personal Note: The way Key writes the song, to me it may be a conflict between music genres, rap and rock/pop. LA is comprised of many african americans, moreso than florida, which leads me to them being 'the only savior' , "Look at you saving the world on your own". The Chorus only further supports my theory of this being about getting away from LA |

From this song it appears Ryan Key has definately matured, from 2003's Ocean Avenue, as the lyrics are much different. The contrast between Lights and Sounds and Ocean Avenue are already becoming apparent through two songs that i've heard, this one and lights and sounds, their first single. Rather than being about heartache, it seems that Ryan Key explores other emotions, this one possible disbelief. The title Sure thing falling, already indicates a contrast, an element we see throughout the song, primarily through the chorus: Heroes and Crooks, two seemingly contradictory people. One of them Steals you, one of them Saves you, another strong contrast. Key though this diction seems to me, to attempt to reveal that everything that looks like something, may be something else. Sure thing, is no longer a sure thing, the "sure thing" falls. The 2nd verse of the song shines light back on the love emotion of Ocean Avenue. (Remember ... reminds me of the single ocean avenue, "i used to sit and talk to you" etc). In conclusion, I think that this song is saying that not everything is what it is. Not everything is certain. What is percieved as being true, may in fact be false. All Sure things fall... If anyone knows what the 15 lines means lemme know pls. i cant get that. |

| Any way around it, AP magazine gave lights and sounds - the album a 5/5 review, so it should be spectacular, they also have another song off there, Space Travel, which is a much more mello song, probably gonna be the slowest song off their new cd. 15 days and Counting. | |

Maybe im a bit out there but i think that this song is directed to celebrities. The first stanza in my opinion serves to show the beginning of ones career " Hello you, how was the rest, you made it thru but never the less, I got you out on a wire, you be love and ill be a liar. Tell it all and fill up the air, but make it loud cause nobodies there nobodies there, nobodies there.." You made it thru refers to everything aspiring actor/actress's go through to make it (i.e. waitering etc.) You be love and I'll be a liar probably means that everyone that loves you, friends family, say lies to comfort you, hence the rest. Nobodies there means that no one believes in you at the start, which also reinforces the 'liar' who IMO tells him that they can do it but doesnt really believe. The Chorus is reminding them to look at their past, at who actually supported them. "Stop, turn, take a look around" All the lights and sounds in my opinion refers to the spotlight and media. Celebrities are often 'taken in' by their popularity. He gives a negative connotation to this by, "Slow, burn, let it all fade out, and pull the curtain down, wonder where you've been.." because after a while, it all 'burns' and fades out. Pull the curtain down symbolizes the 'end' of a possible career, wonder where you've been is exactly what is written. The 2nd stanza, " Make it new but stay in the lines, just let go, keep it inside, smile big for everyone, even when you know what they've done. They gave you the end but not where to start, not how to build, how to tare it apart, So Tell it all and fill up the air, but make it loud cause nobodies there, nobodies there.. nobodies there.." Also reinforces this 'interpretation'. Make it new, but stay in the lines sorta implies that one should make a name for themselves, but dont wander off the 'path' too much. Just let it go, keep it inside, refers to their constant harrassment by papparatzi, instead of being exploded, just let it go, keep it inside "Smile big for everyone even when you know what they've done" Any celebrity knows that a fan is a fan, no matter what they've done, just smile, raise your popularity. "They gave you the end, not where to start" depicts the people that just jump on the bandwagon, like before, those who dont believe in you from the start, but once you've already made a name for yourself people start to like you. Not how to build how to tear it apart, same thing as above, some celebs careers are destroyed because they cannot handle popularity, applies to musicians too (i.e. kurt cobain) I think you can figure out "tell it all to fill up the air, make it loud cuz no bodies there" "I got a way to work this out" means that hes got a way to not be engulfed in this atmosphere of popularity. The last two lines i think bring it all home, "You've earnedt everything you've found and painted faces frown, I'll say I knew you when.." An actor/musician has earned everything he has (found) because he struggled through it all, painted faces refer to the two faced people who just like you because your famous, but when you werent famous they werent really your friend or whatever, I'll say i knew you when to me means that he always supported him, not just liked him for his celebrity status, money or wealth. That my take on it. It seems plausable. Tell me what ya guys think. See ya . Art. |
