Damien Rice – The Blower's Daughter Lyrics 19 years ago
I just heard Damien Rice sing this song on Austin City Limits. I haven't had such an impact from listening to a song since I first heard The Replacements sing "Skyway."

Lyle Lovett – Private Conversation Lyrics 20 years ago
If there ever was a song in which Lyle talked about that damn movie star woman, this one is it. The statements of the private conversation is the media attempt to access to what the world saw as an oddball relationship. Too bad few people realized which party had actually married above themselves.

Paul Westerberg – Love Untold Lyrics 20 years ago
I can't explain how many unrequited teenage relationships to which I would like to apply this song. (4 actually). However, I think that as beautiful and hopeful as the song is, I believe that there is an undercurrent to the song which is an indication of the author's knowledge of his self-deception. Paul knows that he can sing this song because nothing ever worked out and that a relationship had appeared, it would not have remained this flawless dream. Rather it would have died in the insecurities and arrogances which each of us hold.

The Cowboy Junkies – Southern rain Lyrics 20 years ago
While that is an interesting and intriguing proposition, I believe that the Southern Rain is more a metaphor for the cleansing effects of rain upon the environment. Change brings new experience, whether it being a positive or negative change.

Emmylou Harris – Wrecking Ball (Neil Young cover) Lyrics 20 years ago
The most forlornly beautiful song that has ever been sung. Emmylou's voice graces the lyrics with an optimism that is tempered by experience and the reality of human emotion. Recognition of the futility of her actions while still hoping for the best.

Emmylou Harris – Goodbye Lyrics 20 years ago
Maybe it's too obvious to mention, but simply the regrets of the past and the memories of a distant, pleasant, but failed relationship.

Emmylou wrote this song either just before or after the death of her father.

Lyle Lovett – North Dakota Lyrics 20 years ago
I think this is one of Lyle's many love and love lost songs. If you look at the second half of the song, there is a definite indication of losing and failing the lover that was once there. And even after experiencing the loss, the cowboy still makes the same mistake by looking somewhere else for affection.
