I can see how many people would want to make this song about a relationship...but I got a definite feeling that this is a lament concerning Western culture. I don't know if it's meant to be specific to a certain event, but for me it relates to some of the negative aspects of the beginnings of the U.S.

" trains aren't solving machines
All those years
They were here first
Oily marks appear on walls
Where pleasure moments hung before
The takeover
The sweeping insensitivity of this
Still alive"

Those lines refer me to the disenfranchisement of Native Americans (they were here first) the takeover of industrialization (trains aren't solving machines) and when she says "Still alive" it seems that she's saying that spirit continues in injustices today..."mmm what'd you say...that you only meant well"...strong reference to the justification rhetoric of wars in recent memory.

I might be completely off with this, but it was the first thing I felt when I heard this song. It's so beautiful and heartbreaking.

beautiful...
flawed, but beautiful love of someone who genuinely wants to be better for himself and the one he loves...that loves him unconditionally..."you don't know how cool you are to find the ways to love me without shame"

Lovedrug – Spiders Lyrics 20 years ago
"love is spiders on the edge,
and we're hanging by a thread,
connected to the other end of this
twisted frequency i've spun,
but i don't care,
i'd be happy
if you'd share
your web with me."

For me, that section is the heart of the song....I feel like he's acknowledging the fragility of life...especially in love, so when you have something good...you're so lucky. "us against the world" kind of feel...yeah, life is hard, let's share a web :)

I think it would be best if we stuck to discussing the music, not speculating about what drugs conor is or is not on. To do that kind of degrades everything...

I Really don't think coke is the issue here, and whether or not Conor uses or is addicted to cocaine is definitely not the issue.

He is an artist creating impressions that, if they are (and they do appear to be...) referring to drugs it's because he may and others may use coke, and it's just part of the impression/feeling you get from the song.......why in the world would he write a song so we could sound off on whether or not he's an addict...

This song I can strongly relate to because it creates impressions of a confusing, frenetic, though strangely lethargic lifestyle.
"Well all these claims at consciousness
My stray dog freedom"
